Quite easy to argue against the tire choice if they used telemtry and datalogging from the real car to build physics of the in game car.. And people can lap in around the 8.20 range.
Alien fast hot lappers in GT5 would probably do under 8.10 (pure guesswork) Let me see people do that in a real GT86.

Real life E46 M3 does 8.22.
You can crush that time on sport hard tires!

Did you try the GTR 2007 trophy challenge? Go try it...report back.

Just buy it and drive it!

Meaning, if you do not follow those rules you cheat.

And if you read the actual thread, Maintenance has been acceptable. If it wasn't, we would have to continue to keep buying a new car over and over. The lot of us drive with ABS at 1.

If the OP chimes in and says no ABS at 1, then wipe the entire board and start over.

Yes, I have seen it, but we clearly see things very differently. I might share some of your viewpoint the day a stock GT86 right from the dealership does 8,20 or faster on Nordschleife.
Or when a professional does the same time in a real car that I can do on sport in Gt5(have not tried yet. Will try when I get the
opportunity. )

I've ran the bone stock 2007 GTR at the Burg to try and nab the trophy for beating the IRL cars time at the Burg. You have to drive your arse off to beat that time. I didn't pay attention to the tires it came on, but it was very difficult for me with the DS3. I barely beat the IRL time.

You also don't seem to take into account that in the virtual world we don't have to fear for our lives while driving 180+mph before entering a hairpin. We are more apt to go faster...

Wasn't controlling the understeer and oversteer like I should. I use the slow-in-fast-out method and maximize mid-corner acceleration. If you don't enter the right line then you can't accelerate out of the corner early and stay on track cause it will understeer into the dirt.

Oh boy, hell broke loose. This was simple stock car TA thread... well not anymore.

Well, until Merlin clear some of the technical stuff, this debate gonna be going, & going, & going

As for me, don't care, cuz I'm more of drift person & it was my one shot thing, so time for me to go back to drifting~

Ok, these are my times so far. No mod to the car. Just bought it and drove it using Logitech G27.

Sorry for getting the discussion a little off topic.

Dragonetti, I did not read all your edits right away, but ill just leave the things I have not answered or could comment on.
I am not the guy to put on sticky tires, I see you are and that we prefer different things. I am fine by that. Most people have more grip mentality equals more fun or something. I do not see things that way.. I enjoy driving in wet or GOOD snow conditions more then in the dry. :p
Id like to keep that mentality when playing GT5 too.
Anyway, Ill drop my discussion about the sport hard vs. real life (stock car) grip.

To OP.
Would be nice to get the ABS part part sorted out. I like to follow rules for a challenge like this and for everyone else to do the same. It seems like the majority are driving the car with ABS. Could you change the first post to allow ABS?

Could you be so kind and add a Nordschleife leaderboard with comfort soft tires.
I enjoy those tires more, and feel they are more true to the GT86 that I would buy from the dealership. I like to compare the GT86 against its other rivals without having to upgrade to sport hard on all of the cars the comes with comfort soft.

I suggest to put a pp limit on the car that is easy to reach for everyone. If a car gets above a given pp limit u just downtune a little. Since people have posted their times, and some like to get the most HP out of a stock GT86 i fully understand if the rules will stay as they are. It is not a big deal for me.

WOW this thread got out of control in a hurry.

Ok after reading everyones rants I will make on adjustment to the rules. ABS can be set to 1. I have only ever raced with a wheel and after trying to modulate the brakes with the ds its damn near impossible. I also dont want to start all over again lol.

I was driving with NO ABS which makes it noticibly harder however the point of this thread was to drive it close to real life so I guess ABS does make sense.

I am not going to be adding anymore top 10's right now(courses, soft tires, race tires, with suspension, ect.). This thread is already a pain to constantly reorganize with every new time and adding more lists would just compound that by 10.

So here are the rules once again.

- GRIP REAL
- NO TRACTION CONTROL
- NO AERO
- NO TUNING
- ABS SET TO ONE
- OIL CHANGES ARE OK (We want our 86's to last right?)
- STOCK TIRES - SPORTS HARD

I have the mentality that you don't bump up the horsepower on your vehicle and neglect all supporting mods, including tires. I'm talking about in real life here. I didn't bump up the HP on my current car so I can careen into a wall because my tires sucked. You know what I mean. People don't build race cars and say "oh...let me run with the same tires and brakes from the factory, even though I have an additional 150whp". Those tires and brakes were not designed to support that much additional power, so it does not make sense to use inadequate equipment.

If it's a stock car still, then I don't have a problem using the stock tires. But the thing is....these ARE the stock tires that came on the GT86 and that is what everyone is using here. If I modded the 86 to have more power, I would not continue to use the same tires, makes no sense to me.

It's a blast on the Top Gear Test track, which is the only course I've tried it on:

1:25.114 (clean)

Details:
  • GT mode > Practice > A Spec Free Run
  • Sport hard tires (what it came with)
  • MT with G27
  • Stock except for oil change (202 HP, 154 lbf*ft, 1230 kg, PP 409)
  • Driving Line = ON
  • ABS = 1
  • TC and all other aids = OFF
I was pretty sloppy, so I think I could shave a couple seconds off.

Anyway, I know the Top Gear Test track isn't one of the contest's courses, so please pardon my off-topic response to Kostamojen.

This is'nt just to you deslock but to everyone else who can't stop their fingers from vomiting all over the keyboard in this thread.

This thread is about our competition on the courses we are currently doing and how best to get this awesome little car around these tracks in the manner the GT5 engineers wanted us to.

And nothing else. Thanks.

If you want to talk about other tracks great just do it someplace else. Maybe next month we will do the top gear track and we can all chat about that then.
