+1. At the event I was at this weekend there were a bunch of cars with roof mounted Gopros. They looked like Google Street View cars.

I prefer to shoot video in our car from the top of the back window with the gopro handing down, run in upsidedown mode with spot metering:

it is an 808 camera - there are a bunch of them ranging from $10-$40 for the good ones. iirc mine is the v16 with a wide angle lens. it is just a keychain camera. i mounted it with velcro, although i think i need at least a better attempt with velcro next time i go. the camera quality is not bad, and being shrunk picture in picture and just to capture some feet it works out great.

when leaving a small medieval town in germany - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rothenburg_ob_der_Tauber
https://plus.google.com/photos/11189...409?banner=pwa

a friend and i mounted my gopro to our rental and drove around, which gives a way cooler feel of the town than the pics above i took do. we thought some of the people were looking oddly at us for having the camera on there and thinking that. in reality it was probably 20% that and 80% thinking we were assholes - we were flagrantly violating all sorts of signs and laws that we didn't take the time to get familiar with as stupid american tourists. oops :/

Here is mine mounted on the lower portion of the rear window, about 1 or 2 inches to the left from center:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiOCbmZ3u2E"]Stock BRZ at Sebring - 2:48 Lap - YouTube[/ame]

It's an ok view, too much interior view vs. seeing the actual track.

I plan on building this to mount the GoPro to, and attach it to the passenger side headrest bars:

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39...era-mount.html

Which will give this kind of view:

That is exactly what I do. Probably the best readily available interior spot. I'd like it a little more forward but the seat back would probably be too far forward.

I will post how I put my videos but yes, the front hood bracket is the best...I saw someone do it when I was surfing the web.
Uploading video soon.

Outside rear quarter. I have a headrest bracket mount but the seat still transmits vibrations to the camera.

I want to get an external mic as cheaply as possible but I'm at a loss as to what I need. The Audio Technica ATR3350 was recommended in this thread, is it all that's needed? Will I also need a transmitter/reciver combo as well?

Nope. Just the mic and you're good to go.

Bro, no need to get a mic unless your pulling a drive video.

Anyway here is something that can be useful.
http://drive.jalopnik.com/heres-how-...deos-500142072

FYI, from another brz to me and now to you. Use the open cover go pro case on the location you want to hear the audio.
The back cover had rectangle hall on each side (left and right).

I appreciate it, but the reason I do want a mic is because I've already tried recording with my GoPro3 inside the skeleton casing and do not get the clear exhaust sound I'd like.

Ah okay. Watch that youtube video link to give you an idea on how to record it. it looks very simple.

But I see what you are doing...It would be cool to buy a normal recording device.
My suggestion would be to talk to a friend who does media related stuff (video/digital cameras, shit like that) and ask them how would they record your exhaust like the drive video.
its better that way because its coming from someone who can help you set it up correctly.
I would tell you an idea but I don't like giving advises which aren't convenient.
Ask someone in that media field and you will be all set.
