I agree completely, but also want to add that documenting everything is key via dealer service visits, NHTSA complaints, and appropriate feedback on satisfaction surveys.

I was gonna say, maybee all the folks who have had / do have the issue should contact nhtsa... i think that will force scion / subaru to acknowledge the issue, at least here in the states.

Yes..they should file with the NHTSA so that we can all have our injectors replace with some future improved design.

What concerns me is that we a seeing this early on mainly in those that drive their cars hard. That only means that for the rest of us it will happen sooner or later.

And why is it happening anyway???? This is not the first DI system out there!

What criteria do the NHTSA use to quantify an issue? How many modded and non-modded cases do we know of at this point? Exhaust/intake mods could come into play also, especially if there are any leaks or sensor issues...

From what I've read on here in the past this seems like the best way to get a manufacturer to acknowledge a problem. I wonder if the 'normal' use excuse would come into play here? I'd think more than likely until more non tracked non modded cars start popping up with the problem.

I drive my car very hard. It stays in Sport/VSC, and I keep the revs high and gears low. It's completely stock though. It's not unusual for mine to stay in 6000RPM to redline solid for a while, even in normal traffic. I mean, there's like no power otherwise.

2000 miles, will report if I see any issues.

Just FYI, if you didn't know, that's not the best for fuel economy or engine longevity but it's your car so you can drive it how you like.

Yep, but no way I would keep the car past warranty anyway. Fuel economy wise it's pretty meh in traffic anyway. I do get good economy just cruising down the highway in 6th gear.

My engine sometimes gets a bit boggy, particularly at trailing throttle, but never anything more than that.

Before any of the mpg loss, low-mid rpm popping under moderate acceleration I had misfires in high rpms under WOT ( small micro explosions popping "sound"). I just thought it was me, even though my friend noticed it as well about 2 months prior to getting the firecrackers.

I wonder one or two of the DI part #'s are having more issues than the other? maybe the nationwide backorder is so they can issue mark 4?

Can those who replaced the DI injectors post up what the stratified injector number they were?

That could be useful.

This sounds terrible. I hope the issue isn't widespread. I also like how Toyota advertises the fact you can fit 4 tires and a helmet and take your 86 to the track to what? Watch Honda's run around?

I'm running Unichip for the fact if something goes wrong initially I can turn it back stock. I'm about to jump on the innovate supercharger kit once it's released but this gets me worried. A few bolt-ons are easy to rip off to take to the dealer if I'm getting the 4th of July celebration.

My 86 does great on track. For those crying "the sky is falling" about the platform due to a handful of issues on the 1st year production run, here's a suggestion: Sell your car to someone that will like it and go buy something else. There are plenty of people trying to find an 86, and you can whine about some other car. Unless you paid over MSRP, or have high miles, you should be able to get most of you money back
