Direct Injector Leaking

So this is the 2nd time within a month of going back to the dealership because of my Direct Injector Leaking. One has already been replaced last month and now my other one is leaking.

If anyone else hears a "firecracker popping sound" coming from your car under moderate acceleration, that's more than likely you're issue. Its not a pleasant sound.

I have the same issue.
Went to Subaru dealership #2 today with the O rings in hand and they refused to acknowledge the issue.

Today's service advisor tried to blame the issue on my after market exhaust.
Really getting tired of these guys.
They have pictures of their rally cars hanging everywhere and pump their products at SEMA but the minute you purchase any of this stuff they blame every engine issue on your after market parts.

Do you know what cylinder start leaking first? In my case, I got CEL P301 around 15000mi. I replaced all spark plugs.

Popping sound came up after I brought my car to a track. It had 17,000mi on it. Then, I found out that 1st cylinder injector O-ring was missing and 3rd cylinder injector O ring does not look good. I replaced all O-rings and Insulators.

Have you brought the car to track after 1st time fix?

I added oil cooler and run around 500mi. The issue has not reoccurred yet.

Get a regional service advisor involved as well as Subaru corporate...

We know it was fixed under warranty, but how much was the bill? I, as well as everyone here I'm sure would like to know what the cost will be after the warranty expires.

I'm Confused (or someone else here is)

There are O-rings at the DI to rail interface, but at the head there is a teflon Band and a crush ring that is metal bonded to rubber.

now that that is all clear, what is leaking? the O-rings or the already known issue of the teflon band which is burried in the head at the end of the injector near the combustion chamber?

Please clarify. as these are severely separate issues, and as stated one is already a known issue. (well to those that know lol)

Peachch,

First thanks for posting the initial photos of your missing injector rings.
It appears the lower teflon ring was completely missing from your injector.

Given this diagram:

Is this the part that you found damaged or completely missing?
http://bminor.smugmug.com/photos/i-9...-9wRfM6Z-S.jpg

Did you replace it yourself?
Was it hard to get to or just like any other injector ring swap?
Pull the manifold, pull the fuel rail, pull the injectors?

I would caution anyone about working on the DI fuel injectors yourself. There are several torque critical, one-time use metal fittings for the DI system, and for safety reasons all o-rings, washers and gaskets must be replaced when they are removed.

1st cylinder O-Ring was completely missing. You need to remove intake manifold first. It was abit difficult to put the O-Ring in since it was very tight and I do not have SST. The rest is similar to other injector removal including teflon insulator replacing. Someone posted service manual here. You can follow the instruction. Unfortunately, I did not take any photo. I cannot put it in DIY section.

how hard was to remove the intake manifold?

so a newbie can do this?

do we really need the sst tool or no?

track_warrior 05-28-2013 11:13 AM

This was the cause of my engine failure. I really hope there is a recall for this as its dangerous and could cause complete engine failure like in my car. Im seriously considering parting out my car and selling.
