Thanks for the input everyone!

This is a projector (to answer your question yes the FRS has projectors and not reflectors).

This the old style "reflector".

Projectors are the housings and the ballast and lamp that you put basically defines the look that you're getting. They are measured usually with numbers going from 4300K to 12,000K (4300K is yellow, then going to white until it gets to purple). When these ballasts and lamps are put into reflectors, they give that cheap look you're talking about, however, when put on a projector with the right amount of output you need (6000-10,000 is the range you're looking for I believe) it gives the more OEM professional look you're talking about. Sometimes, cheap replica ballasts that are failing also turn from producing "white" color to more of a "blue" color.

Never heard of going more than 12,000K but I could be wrong.

Just to clarify, ^^^above poster technically isn't wrong, but technically isn't correct either...main-drive/low-beams are Projector, DRL/High-Beams ARE "old-style" reflectors. This is intentionally by design as RE-flectors by nature are better at throwing light everywhere, where as PRO-jectors do just that - project (!) a specified, designed pattern with a top end cut-off

(not trying to jab Yamajee in the slightest, just pointing it out because there's a certain degree of ambiguity that post considering one can look at their FRS and see both of what was pictured above)

Photo from last night...this is my 6000k kit on my garage door. Very defined cut-off point. The "yellow" looking artifact in the center that appears above the cut off point is actually a reflection coming off the inside of the outer housing, bouncing over to the high-beam reflector geometry and bouncing back out where the high beams would be.

When I originally installed these, I parked it with the lights on and hopped in my wife's car (at the time was a Chevy Cobalt) to see what they looked like from oncoming traffic. To a non-car nerd, they were indistinguishable from any other high-end car with factory HIDs on the road today...no blinding glare, just a pure white color w/a tinge of blue that's inherent from the light refraction through a lens.

edit: Also, keep in mind this is a camera phone image...hardly the highest of quality, but you get the point

I stand corrected. Thank you for clarifying that to me, not much of an expert in these things =).
