GT86 on Swiss Mountain Roads

I know we were in contact a while ago, KillerBee. We're going to the alps in four weeks from Norway, so I'd love to meet up and maybe have you show us around a little? PM me if you're interested at all. :-)

I like the Tremola the most (which belongs to the Gotthardpass) which is actually only an hour drive from the Klausenpass:

Luckily the air is thinner and colder up there so less worriedness about detonation and injector seals...

I thought about it, however this is the wrong pass to do this. The road is quiet bumpy (and I mean, really bumpy) and even tough you are allowed to drive 80km/h the whole way, the road is so narrow that you hardly can go that fast. As a Californian, two things stick out to me: first of all, there is no one around. There are a lot of awesome roads out here, but you'll always encounter traffic unless you've already driven an hour outside of suburbia.

The second thing is the lack of guardrails or any borders to the roads...because California is the land of guardrails and fences. Our twisties usually have a guardrail on the edge of the road and a fence just beyond to protect someone's private property. As a photographer in a beautiful place, that really grinds my gears. So many scenic vistas are ruined by fences. I love how you just parked on the side of the road and got some awesome snaps

I have to admit that the road is not always that empty. But since it is in the middle of nowhere, and also not really connecting any Point a-b, most people that drive this road do it only for pleasure. And since I did drive it weekdays early evening, not much tourist where around. However on weekends it looks different ;-)

True about the Fence and guardrails point. We use rather a "darwins law" approach here: either stay on the road or drive off the cliff and die ;-) However, those roads also are not that much frequented, so I guess thats why they are not made more safe with the guardrails and stuff

Already did that some days ago, however changed yesterday my picture out to one of the new ones :-) Thanks for the hint though

Well noticed, it is the Klausenpass. Sadly Susten, Grimsel and Furka are still closed, so Klausen was my only choice. I miss them :-(

Well, while this is true in the black forest for example (I hardly take pictures there as I just want to fly over the roads there) the view in the mountains is just way to impressive that you could not at least make 2-3 brakes and enjoy the view.

Well... I've been on the same roads you have, Sarlacc... The NA engine really doesn't like the altitude when you approach 1500-2000m.... :p

But the corners.... oh God, the corners....

I do have to ask though; I've heard "rumors" and stories that Switzerland is a bad place to be a car nut; illegal to wash your own car on certain days, very harsh penalties for speeding, can get in trouble for performance modifications.... any truth to any of this? I'm actually looking at a job in Geneva and If I got the job I'd love to bring the BRZ over....
