Before everyone starts jerking themselves off that they don't need an inspection in their own state.

I'm confused as if you flashed back to stock tune or not. Or is your headless catless, thus causing an immediate CEL?

If you hand build a car here (like a tube chassis car from scratch, no VIN), someone from SoS will come out to your location to check it for: headlights/taillights/blinkers/windshield wiper/windshield wiper squirter, and a 2-point seatbelt. As long as you have that, they slap a constructors VIN on your chassis and assign a constructors title for it. 1 manual wiper with a sporting goods water bottle will pass!

OP - Sorry to hear.
Yes, and I have seen the results of that fine system driving down the road (or attempting too) way too often. Missing bumper covers, loose dangling lights and mirrors, clouds of black smoke, cardboard windows, completely bald tires, rusty smashed in body panels and just about any other nasty thing you can imagine are far too common. I have personally been hit by parts flying off cars in the Detroit area on three occasions. One particularly bad Neon flung it's whole tail light assembly into the air and hit the top of my bumper (there was a car between us).
There certainly is something to be said for a decent inspection system.

I'm running a catless header

I did not flash back to stock. I simply went to another station after someone in this thread mentioned being in NYS and having just passed an inspection. Comparing the tunes of his and mine (aside from fueling as his was a FI tune) all the diagnostic stuff was the same.

I figured I'd try another shop. I'm guessing the OBDII scanner they use is a little worn down for how much it gets used and just makes a crappy connection with my port. All my OBDII devices work just fine. It failed 2 attempts and the 3rd one finally went thru.

Multiple forums for various other platforms were commenting the same "Connection Failure" issue with a tune on their car which is what prompted me to make this thread. Even though the OBDII device says its connected per the diagnostic light, apparently some tunes will cause a "Connection Failure" message with NYS machines if any readiness monitors are turned off. However it does not appear Shiv disables any of those things in his tunes. The disabled DTC codes have no effect on this.

Understood.
