Failed Inspection with a tune...
Hey everyone, curious to know if anyone might have some ideas why a tune would prevent an NYS inspection machine from reading my ECU. I'm using an OFT Stage 2 93 EL tune. My OBD reader works just fine, green readiness monitors according to torque, the inspection machine says its connected but fails to talk with the ECU.
Has anyone come across this? I flashed with a tactrix cable but I can't imagien that woudl matter much. I can still connect and read my ECU just fine. Just trying to prevent myself from having to pull off my header and flash the stock tune due to a CEL coming on at somepoint. |
I also just read something about NYS having new machines as of last year which has been causing problems for people with tunes on other platforms with the failure to communicate.
If any readiness monitors are turned off it will give a failure to communicate error.. Anyone know what readiness monitors are turned off in the oft tunes? |
The tuning forum or OFT directly would probably get you an answer. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=88

You guys should move to Maine, they shine a flashlight around the stuff that matters (having enough brake pad, tire tread, suspension holding together ok, horn and wipers working, etc).
I’ve passed with Longtube Headers and no Cats on an LS1 car, they didn’t care, as long as the car was safe otherwise. Having said that, in this day and age all cars on the street should have Cats, its a no-brainer and there are performance options, which do quite well. I don't condone deleting cats altogether, but to get rid of one which kills performance and put something in its place, is ok in my book. Driving a backroad is so fun because of the trees and rivers, keep it clean. |

I see nothing in romraider regarding disabled 02 sensors or anything of the sort
I see a lot of disabled DTC codes however I was under the impression those are not the issue when ti comes to readiness monitors.. However maybe I am incorrect in that. |

If you hand build a car here (like a tube chassis car from scratch, no VIN), someone from SoS will come out to your location to check it for: headlights/taillights/blinkers/windshield wiper/windshield wiper squirter, and a 2-point seatbelt. As long as you have that, they slap a constructors VIN on your chassis and assign a constructors title for it. 1 manual wiper with a sporting goods water bottle will pass! OP - Sorry to hear. |
Looking at TM's tune for the ESC the only difference is he has is MAP code turned off.
Maybe I'll try a different inspection station. |
Well I went to another shop. It failed twice but on the 3rd attempt went through. So looks like its not the tune. I have tried two obd2 adapters and my tactrix all work without issue. Weird. So for anyone wondering yes you can pass NYS inspection successfully with an oft tune
