Does anybody use octane booster?
The price of gas around here is getting ridiculous. It used to be the difference in price between regular and premium was about 40 cents. Now it's more like 80 cents. And I've seen the difference at over a dollar a gallon. So, it costs over 10 dollars more to fill your tank with premium than regular and since we can't use regular, I thought it might make sense economically to mix regular gas with octane booster.
Any thoughts on this? |

As Whelan said, additives are OK short term but they are not a bandaid and will cost you much more than just filling with the correct octane.
One of my tunes requires an additive called Boostane, and it turns my valves orange, who knows what else is coated in the strange leftovers.

The only good octane boosters I'm aware of are products like VP racing octanium which is literal unleaded race fuel which physically raises octane by putting a higher octane fuel in.
Everything else I am aware of it a wash and I less specifically third party tested. |

Anyone here old enough to remember Sunoco 260? Back in the day at Sunoco stations you could dial in the octane you wanted up to 260 octane. I think what they did was blend in tetraethyl lead at the pump. And it would cost less than a dollar a gallon. And they would wash your windshield, check your oil and give you free stuff. Those were the good old days.
