Royal Purple Max Boost Octane Booster
http://royalpurpleconsumer.com/wp-co.../Max-Boost.pdf
spoke to Royal Purple about the product, seems to really boost your octane by up to 3 points when used correctly. I'm normally skeptical of this kinda stuff, but it uses MMT like some other true octane boosters which does really work. Seems like good insurance for boosted track rats or folks stuck in Cali with their shit 91 octane gas. MotoIQ (website) actually tested it in their project FR-S and it made the car much easier to dyno on 91oct. Cost is $17 a bottle. Only real downside I read about MMT is that some people on the internet who have used similar products report spark plug fouling (obiovusly for us that would be a royal pain in the ass). Its hard to say if those folks were using it correctly (i.e. where they over doing it and putting to much in the tank thinking hey, I can get 100oct if I double up). Royal Purple claims it won't foul plugs used correctly. Just curious people's experiences with real octane boosters. The product should be back on shelves(they were having packing issues) in April.

A BRZ gas tank is 13.2 gallons, or 1689.6 ounces. That can is 16 ounces, or 0.9% of your fuel capacity. It would have to have an octane rating of 316 to bring up a full tank of gas by three numbers, or from 91 to 94. Considering that running straight toluene would get you 121 octane (not recommended) and running xylene would get you 118 (again, not recommended), I'm inclined to disbelieve Royal Purple's claims.
It might have detergents or lubricants in it, and that's great. It's not going to significantly change the octane of a fuel tank that is 105 times larger than it is. *octane numbers from Wikipedia page on octane, found at [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating"]Octane rating - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] |

Perhaps it isn't so much that it actually raises octane as it is measured but has the same effect as a 3 point increase in terms of preventing knock. Who knows. Glad I have 93.
