And yet it didn't effect mine.
You do know resonators are designed to muffle sound frequencies, that's why there are so many, at the snorkle, airbox an induction pipe. Lots of R&D went into these little tanks IRT having the vehicles noise level compliant. But, as always, opinions may vary. |

So you removed all the "little tanks" and this "didn't effect" your car?
No documented power loss or gain or sound change? Did you do other modifications at the same time or just that? |

The factory intake system on most cars are so well designed at this point, it isn't rocket science why aftermarket intakes don't work. Look at most intake systems for this car, they "improve" power slightly on a dyno but in the real world transient throttle response turns to garbage. Hard for a straight piece of pipe to emulate a computer designed and engineered system of resonance chambers to ensure smooth airflow across the MAF.

Thank you re-animator.
Exactly my experiences and those of other Miata NA/NB racers and countless dyno tests. You remove the Helmhotz chamber and you pay for it. |

Generally when I do something I see how my 0 - 100 goes. Both the dyno and the 0-100 have inherent flaws though. As for the resonator on the intake tube, opinions and results vary, you say it looses power others say it doesn't, why wouldn't the TRD airbox have one? I'm not buying it, especially when dyno results are brought up, I've seen so much variation over the years, trying to pick one or 2 horsepower isn't going to be repeatable, you can fudge the graph quite easily though to give you any result you want. IMO dynos are for tuning and circlejerks, 0-100 and the 1/4 mile will tell the truth. I'm just posting my findings. Enjoy |

Resonance chambers are not always required if the design is correct. I suspect the design of the TRD box accounts for that, those folks know a thing or two. Keep in mind that the TRD airbox fits to the factory snorkle which has resonance chambers on it as well, so it doesn't lose all of them.

installed incorrectly?
I have the perrin intake with a perrin inlet tube and doesn't make that suction noise that people talk about for some reason. Is it possible it was installed wrong? Does clamping or loosening the clamps a bit contribute to a better sound at all?

Simplest is to not unplug anything. Just plug hole from inside cabin with reusing second ciglighter socket plug from glovebox. No need to buy anything or even lifting hood to just test of how it's w/o soundtube. It's very subjective feel, but with 100% stock exhaust by i had wrong & subjective feel car becoming weaker/limp a bit, so stayed with that soundtube left functional. Probably wouldn't need to, if i had aftermarket exhaust.
