Stock Flash, Check Engine

Hi all,

I have a 2017 BRZ manual, with just over 3000 miles. I have no mods installed and just got had my check engine light come on today. I checked the codes and it comes up with P119F (caused the CEL) and P219A (historic fault).

Now I want to take it into the dealer and have them take a look but I do have my ECU flashed with a stock ECUTEK rom for my vehicle. I purchased the license to learn the system and ECU before any modding was to happen.

Is it possible the ECUTEK stock rom is different than what my vehicle needs? It has been on there for probably 2500 miles.

Is this going to be an issue at the dealer? I am not sure if they can tell it has been flashed. I would ideally like to revert it completely to stock if possible.

Any advice? Thanks for your help in advance, I really appreciate it.

By now your ecu is "marked" by the Ecutek license of course and you can t remove that, but shouldn t be a problem at all, they can t easily notice
So if you have a ZA1JK00C rom downloaded from the ecutek software, you are stock and ok
just be sure you don t have RaceRom package enabled on your rom

Will the ecutek "stock" rom allow reflash from dealer?

No. There is no difference between a Ecutek ROM and a factory ROM, except your Ecutek license key is stored in the ROM too.

Did you consider just clearing the faults and see if they return?

You would need Tactrix to overwrite the Ecutek stock ROM, which has your Ecutek license stored in it too. Note that you will lose the Ecutek license if you do so.

Tor, thanks for the reply. I actually have cleared the faults and am waiting for them to return. Just preparing for a trip to the dealer in case they return. Sounds like I should be safe to just take it in as is. I do not have RaceRom, and I am running ZA1JK00C.

you are likely ok to go with that rom with ecutek license on your ecu, maybe if dealer flashes it over you could lose your license like you would with Tactrix, but i wouldn t overwrite it with it before your visit..

Yes, it's unlikely they would notice that there is an Ecutek license on the ECU as long as you are untuned and don't have the ROM patched with Racerom.

I think they have better things to do, than to download your ROM and compare byte for byte if the ROM is identical to stock. Maybe they would bother doing something like that if you had a lot of modifications, they had a suspicion, and you came in with a warranty claim for a blown engine.

Both those codes are fueling errors, have you chaged or worked on anything in car like exhaust intakes, or mabe left an intaje hose off, or ibstalked oiled air filter ?

Whenever you reflash all those codes will be cleared including historic codes

Hey Steve, only thing I have done is put a TRD exhaust on the car and changed my oil twice. I always use Chevron 91, best i can get here in CA. Really strange!

Catback wont effect anything. Yep jist flash it to stock, unfortuatly that will clear codes, so you will have to wait for them to come back then take it in fofr warantee work

Unless the forensically examine the ECU, which is above dealership level, they can't tell if the ECU has been tuned. There's no system that they plug in which flashes a warning that a car has been tuned. If you have a non-stock EcuTek tune then they would not be able to flash it and may suspect the ECU is faulty, but otherwise their access is the same as normal.

Looking at that code, both P119F and P219A are for "BANK 1 AIR-FUEL RATIO IMBALANCE FOR PORT INJECTION". I would suggest to get the laptop in the car and log a few things. Maybe you're looking at an exhaust leak based on the only change. The fuel trims should be the give away on that if something is going awry.

Just wanted to post an update. I have put another 500 miles or so on the car, and the codes have not returned. The only thing that stands out in my mind is that I had just changed the oil the day before the light came on. Is it possible that I may have not seated the dip stick all the way and the open air to the crank case could have caused these?

In my mind it seems unlikely but its all I could come up. Glad it has not come back yet
