How to check for excessive silicone sealant???
My 14' car is approaching the end of the power train warranty with 50k miles.. Reading through here gets me paranoid from hearing about peoples oil galleries getting clogged with excessive silicone sometimes causing problems with cam gears and in some cases starved bearings.. I've done an oil analysis with blackstone labs and silicon level showed average.
Is there a way to check without tearing down the engine? Are there preliminary signs like: low oil pressure ect, oil analysis with high silicon? Ideas on preventing serious damage? like install oil pressure gauge ect..? Is the primary source of the excessive sealant just the front cover or has anyone found it to be in other places? If anyone that had a sealant related oil problem wants to share their experience here that would be ideal. But maybe I am just too paranoid |

The only way to know is to take your engine apart and inspect. However once you put your engine back together you should recheck in 100 miles.

unless you're suddenly going to start tracking and before it was a DD that never revved past 3.5k rpm, it's survived this long, no reason for it to not keep on trucking for tens of thousands more miles

Don't panic! The number of them with issues is actually very very low. You just hear about them. As said if still going odds are you will be fine. Even the 13s that have a much higher stated failure rate probably represent something under 2% of all the cars. Taking the engine apart to inspect it could cause issues of it's own so best to leave it alone. If it does happen it will be sudden and a gauge isn't going to help.
Just keep in mind that these horror stories are a tiny minority.

It sucks. I think about it all the time but short of preemptively tearing down the engine to inspect and clean, there's not a damn thing we can do.
I just passed through 40K with my 13.

93k and haven't experienced that problem yet. Don't worry about it, just drive it.

Not that good. Maybe I should rethink my lame car puns. I'm thinking about earl '90's 240's. Most of those are douche bags fan boys. Or Prius & Volt cars. Not sure which one insults more.
