Excessive wheel weights? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

My car was at the dealer for a squeak coming from the rear when I noticed that my rims have a bunch of wheel weights on them. 1 rim has a strip of 14 weights, 2 rims have 13 weights each, and the 4th rim has 9 weights. These are the stick on weights on the inside "dish" part of he rim. Dealer doesnt see a problem with this. I am the 1st owner so I know this car came from the factory like this. It's a ford mustang with 17 inch rims. I think the rims must have been pretty messed up from the factry for them to have to put that many weights on there. Anyone else have new rims with that much weight?

Tires are usually more to blame than the wheels are.

Could be tires. Wheels could be bent. Or machine could be setup wrong too.

I was assuming the factory guys were doing the install right. I could be wrong though

Just got word back from an experience mechanic that's been doing alignments all his life (number 1 guy in the region for race alignments)

He says that it is normal to have that much weight, however he suggested to try and take the tires off, rotate them 180 degrees and remount and balance.

so it does sound like a tire issue.

Jut switch them over to Carbon fiber or Ti. Then you will not need as many.

Have the tires/wheels spun to check for out of round. And go from there.

i went around a Ford dealers lot, then i also went around a new Kia lot. None of the cars have more than 9 weights per rim. kinda feels like i got some "lemon" rims and/or tires because i cannot find a new car that has half as many wheel weights total as mine.
