Read the grimmspeed development thread. If that doesn't help, its probably not worth researching anymore.

I have and it's great that they provide all the dyno testing and what went into making it. But the design is pretty much just like the injen intake. Aside from having a oiled filter compared to the dry one injen uses. Still what is the definitive reason that makes grimspeed better than the rest?

I would say a filter panel, but there aren't many options (IIRC) for the 2017 models yet.

My Injen SP is the exact same one (except mine is wrinkle black) as in this round up. I think the newer SP has a better design to isolate heat. That said, when my car is moving (I monitored IAT before and after) the IAT is not much higher (maybe 4-6° C higher) than silicone inlet and drop-in. I did have to paint some spots where the paint was starting to chip a little (you wouldn't know looking at it unless I pointed it out though). The metal intake has a better look and feel than the OEM plastic. Fitment was great, installation is easy. The sound- there's no comparison at all. the Injen is a hell of a lot louder and you get more of the sound of the engine (as opposed to my exhaust and getting a lot of the sound of the other end). Combined with the OFT tune, it's a great sound. the placement of the MAF sensor makes throttle response just a bit faster and the intake moves the power band up a little too (look at the round up results with the tune- that feels about right). There's more a difference on the highway than around town. I like the dry cone filter better than the oiled filter too. Injen filters are awesome. Fuel trims once you're moving are fine. At WOT they are great, 2500 RPM they are great. Fuel trims at idle suck. I can see how getting the MAF rescaled would really help with this intake. That said, I haven't had my MAF rescaled and I manage. If I'm at idle more than a few seconds I just lightly keep on the gas and rev a little. |

The injen typically dynos pooorly - as in lower power. I'm not sure if tuning for it corrects that, I suspect it could, but it's also possible that the specifics of the design are never able to get proper MAF readings (too much turbulence or something) resulting in inconsistent behavior and overall power loss. Most people are still best served with a drop in filter and a new elbow to ditch the sound generator tubing. C |

no hate just a personal preference when it comes to cleaning. I dont need to deal with solution or anything like that. But if the grimspeed really is better than the injen than I would gladly take an oiled filter if it meant more gains.

2017 will likely be very similar to previous cars in terms of gains. Best bang for buck will likely be a good catless header and a tune. then maybe rest of exhaust for a little more if you can put up with the noise. After that gains are generally slim and costly |

I trust Cosworth. According to them, an intake does little to improve the performance of our cars. We already have a larger throttle body than the WRX. The only thing missing is a high flow air filter. In their system, they added a synthetic high flow air filter and then focused on the exhaust. That is where the restriction lies...
I have added a Cosworth intake hose to my 1.2 BRZ. It adds nothing in horsepower, but does improve the sound under full throttle. No need for the sound tube anymore. The exhaust is the biggest restriction. I would focus there. |

With all the guessing and uninformed conjecture on here, I'm a little baffled. There is an independent group that actually tested a bunch of intakes with a tuned and untuned car. I don't understand many of the responses to this thread- this is proof of what an intake will do for your car.

Except they missed to show few important bits of nfo that may impact buyers decision. Like they didn't test how much power gain comes from ecu tune alone, they didn't test drop-in filters when they did runs with ecu tune, also did they log afr-s with various intakes with stock tune?
So wasn't shown that aftermarket drop in filter will get most gains of full intake, that ecu tune was responsible for most of gains, that some intakes with stock intake affected MAF sensor readings too much. |
