Best intake option in 2017?
 

It's 2017 now and a couple years have passed for people to try all the different intakes for our cars. I personally have the afe dry filter drop in and the mishimoto silicone high flow tube. I was wondering if there is a set answer as to which intake gives the most gains for our cars? as far as brands and quality. Grimmspeed? injen? K&N? thinking about upgrading to a better intake system. let me know what you guys suggest. :thanks:

Stock intake is really not that bad in older ones, just throw in aftermarket drop-in filter.
On MY2017 it was improved, and should even further lesser need to upgrade it, including filter aswell, which should be of less pressure drop now.
If you are absolutely set on changing it anyways, i'd get Grimmspeed's.

So grimspeed is one of the best intakes made for our cars? what makes theres better than all the other ones?

They work a lot with community, open their development process, don't try to cut corners or cheat, eg. they did a lot for intake to not change MAF sensor readings unlike some other intake options, that made run leaner due that with stock tune giving false top gains, that diminished after ecu tune, they also provide dyno results.
Perrin's would also be good option, but i don't like need to remove bumper to change filter. But still, personally my choice would be leave intake stock. Especially so on MY2017. Gains are too small to justify price. There are better price/performancy parts.

I disagree. Grimmspeed fails the cheat test by doing what most part developers do: not posting dynos comparing the same car tuned for stock and tuned for their intake.

Not singling them out for any reason other than you mentioning them. Every one else does it too (including the Perrin I have). It's all a racket. Get an intake if you want a good sound, not for perf.

Pretty sure they did that in their development thread..... and a bunch of comparisons as well.

yeah honestly I want something I can install without having to remove the bumper. but you guys are basically saying I should be happy with my drop in filter and spend my money on something better like say some headers?

Headers while much more expensive, would yield higher hp increase.

I got a great deal on a barely used perrin tube and cold air from a member here. I had the bumper off just 3 days after i bought the car, my wife came out in the middle of installtion, stoppped in her tracks, shook her head, went back inside lol
That said, i LOVE the intake. Sounds awesome and butt dyno results are good. But dont ask me how often i clean the filter. I also dislike the idea of oiled filters. And the foam thing perrin calls a filter barely qualifies afaic.
But i got it for a steal so its great bang per buck for me. Oh and now its carb approved.

If i had to choose a different one, i would probably get aem due to carb approval since im in cali. Or grimspeed if they are also carb approved? Yep. Cali sucks sometimes.

yeah Im not a fan of oiled filters either. and Im in florida so I dont really have to worry about the carb approved. If I can find a good dry filter CAI that is easy to install that would be ideal for me.

Good intake is $300 plus and is worth 4 hp. Oft and e85 is $500 and gets you 20-25 hp.

Im by no means a car expert and the idea of retuning my car seems complicated to me since I would have no idea what I am doing lol. Also I have an automatic so I dont know how much a tune would really help.

Good thing you singled out a company that did exactly what you claim they didn't.

It's not big gains, it's small gains, and the GrimmSpeed is the only one demonstrated to work successfully without rescaling MAF - not that it doesn't benefit from a little attention. And it cleans up the engine bay a LOT - which can be rather useful.

Is it worth the money? Maybe not if you're after power, unless you are trying to squeeze the maximum amount out that a particular set of rules allows.

You're not tuning your car, youre loading an existing tune into the ecu. You have the option of tweaking the tune to optimize it if you'd like but you can do that when you're comfortable with the process.
