It was all that was left on the lot when I bought it. Now I did go in to buy a manual, but this A/T made me a believer. It is smooth, fast and when your dead tired from working all nite it still never goes into full automatic. Just can't do it. Manual mode all the time. I traded my STI in on the BRZ and have not regretted it a single day.
I mod regardless of the car I have and this car, in AT is just way too much fun. But that's me. Everyone is different. Most never give it chance. Check the forums to see who has more issue's, MT or AT.

Well put.
Although I drive my car in a different way, I have no problem respecting your choices. (And that's said with a nod to the MT camp.)

Maybe this poll would be more usefull with age ranges?
Age range really doesn't really play into. I will admit I enjoyed moving up to having 6 speeds from 5 as much as I enjoyed moving from 4 to 5 and 3 to 4 so that does refresh the experience a bit every decade or so!
Not to mention this whole locating the shift on the floor thing!

Manual shift

I learned on a manual 35 years ago and will never drive an auto by choice,
Certainly when it comes to sports cars....
So much more versatility and fun with a stick.

That is the one true manual...what I learned to drive on!

1. which type is transmission you prefer? and why?
2. If you purchase another vehicle in the future, what type of transmission would you go for?
1. Manual because I can shift exactly when I want, I can rev-match how and when I want, I can stay in whatever gear as long as I want, I can bump start my car if need be, working on a manual transmission is MUCH easier than an automatic and I feel more connected to the vehicle. I'm sure there is more that I can't think of right now, but you get the jist.. much more of what I WANT.

2. If possible, manual.

I had 5 cars with that set up over the years! Really hard to look cool when shifting though with your elbow stuck out to get around the 40" (so it seemed) steering wheel.

1: Manual. I think it is more fun.
2: I have always bought Manual vehicles since my first. Except I bought my wife an automatic. But, that one is hers.

Manual manual manual. Unless you have a physical issue preventing the correct function of your:

Knee
Hips
Lower back
Upper back
Torso
Arms
Wrists
Fingers
Palms
Shoulders
Neck
Forehead

I would suggest a manual. If some ailment affects anything on the above list, consider an automatic.

I could just be completely overlooking the reasoning, but the forehead? Everything else makes sense.

That is where you slap yourself when you miss a shift! Critical to all manual drivers.

Foreheads are clearly important for shifting.

I wish it had three-in-the tree. And the AT means I never have to set the bong or martini down to shift.

My Uncle (who is only 8 years older than me) and I share a story of drag racing involving a "3 on the tree" yellow 1968 Ford F150. He was 18, I was 10.

We were "in town" picking up feed for my Grandfather's farm, when a buddy of my Uncle's pulls up to a stoplight next to us in his identical truck. Well, the race was on. My uncle nailed the light and we were well ahead going through first gear. When he slammed it up into second, the gear lever pin broke and the gear lever came off in his hand, he went flying against the steering wheel from his momentum (hitting his forehead, explaining why ^above^ the forehead is mentioned as important to manual shifting), and we ended up in the ditch, fortunately no worse for the wear.

40 years later, he still has that truck, and we still laugh about it every time we ride in it.
