Deleted AC, now get Traction and ABS lights after a few minutes. No CEL.

I recently deleted my whole HVAC system. Everything seems fine, but now every time I drive my car, the traction and ABS lights come on after a while. I haven't been able to determine when they come on, whether it's time, temperature, distance, or speed based, but it seems to come on roughly around the same time after beginning driving each time. No CEL.

I pretty much unplugged every wire on the interior at some point, but as far as I know, everything is plugged back in except for heat/AC related things. You can't really plug in anything in the wrong place, since most of the connectors are unique. Also, they typically snap into place, which reduces the chances bad connections.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Is there a part, that when tampered with, commonly causes the car to do this? I wouldn't think the HVAC system would have anything to do with traction or ABS.

Have tried pulling codes from the other modules like abs and trac control module if that exists on this car

Nope. I don't even know what you mean by pulling codes. I'm aware of CEL codes, but that's it. Are you suggesting these other lights may have their own codes?

Yes every module in ur car has the ability to flag and store codes. Like airbag codes abs codes bcm codes but not all of these codes will turn ur check engine light on. Cel codes is generic term used for pcm codes

Also u typically need a high end scan tool to pull codes from most of these modules. A cheapo generic scanner will pull engine codes and as u go up in price they start to pull abs and airbag codes. Scanners that are capable of pulling all vehicle codes probably start at couple grand

How high end are we talking? Could Auto Zone read these, or would I have to go to the dealership? Are they all read through the OBDII port, or do the modules themselves have ports on them?

Pretty much whenever I get time, now. I was just waiting on the AC delete, but that's done. I've been DD'ing the FR-S for the last week because my actual DD is having tranny problems. It's been fun driving to work in the morning with freezing temps and no heat. The lack of a defroster makes driving over the bridge particularly exciting. I'm in the middle of a 12 day work streak, so I haven't had time to deal with either car's problem, much less take the FR-S to have it weighed.

Some modules have their own diagnostic connector but those are usually high end audio modules found euro cars. Every module in this car will communicate through the dlc obd ii connector but I could be wrong. I would suggest contacting a Suba shop or dealer tell them what u did and ask to pull all codes or talk to the shop foreman. Keep in mind that if u left connectors unplugged because a component is no longer in ur car u could have opened a circuit unrelated to that component. Also ur a/c system communicates with ur pcm like turning rad fans on when ac is on turning ac clutch off when wot etc. my guess is u opened a circuit unknowingly or u pissed off a module do to a communication issue

To get codes from abs and Trac control modules you have to use vehicle specific diagnostics (uses same port but communication protocols are different and you get a ton more info). Global OBDII like most cheap readers use only shows generic codes. Basically unless you want to drop over $2k on a professional scanner (plus some more $ on software to support the particular car brands you will be using it on) you should have a dealer pull the codes. Oh, and if you can, get a picture of the service advisors face when they see your car :eek:

I'm using a copy of Techstream V7 (on old Xp laptop) via a tactrix cable and it works fine

Oh, and back on topicish, I just had a thought. Bet you could save some weight by removing abs/Trac systems and going old school with no nannies. Of course you would lose the electronic brake distribution
