Suspension Review: KW v3 Coilovers

Lifted from another topic...

Installation note: When installing these KWs we measured the amount of exposed threads below the lower spring collar to determine where to set the coilovers for future installations.

Front: 3/8" remaining thread = 1 9/16" drop
...12 7/8" distance from fender to center of hub (14 7/16" stock height)

Rear: 2 1/8" remaining thread = 2 1/4" drop
...12 3/8" distance from fender to center of hub (14 5/8" stock height)

So...STX...STR.....BRING IT...Its amazing how much Decent suspension does to a car...Installation...I give a 6...the front was no problem..however the ABS and Brake line is routed kinda funky..but I adapted and overcame the Rear.. was a bit more stubborn...but I got it...finally.. Stock 14mm rear sway is on now..with Kartboy links..running Recommended settings for now.. went on a short 'test' drive... I can't wait to get this thing on the course now......I LOVE the KW's...easy to tune... and pretty easy to adjust....I was going to have an event tomorrow but I didn't get to the alignment ...so Monday after work...then I also need to corner weight it.....so far...I am absolutely Beyond pleased with the KW's...They Got it right....On to the pics..

Stock Front Strut assembly....12.6 lbs...
KW Front Strut assembly... 12.9 lbs...

Fronts.... adjusting the ride height..

Front ...After adjustment...about a 1 inch gap between the top of the tire and fender... Coool thing of note...All 4 fenders are Factory Rolled..so nooo issue whatsoever with fitment...

Obligatory Side shot..

and...the Side Profile shot...soooo Sexy..

Can't wait for Cent Divs Next week in Milwaukee.... running up our good buddy Neal Tovsen...and his wife in STX...should be interesting.. ...we'll see how it does against a well prepped Bimmer..

Questions??
How much lower are you?
What settings did you use for rebound/compression?

I have V3s also, and I love them. The ride does feel more "planted", but I will have to take some time to mess with the settings and fine tune it for my daily driving. I really like how adjustable it is.

I went about 1 3/4" lower, not sure if that is too much, but feels good right now. Supposedly going that low affects the suspension geometry drastically, requiring parts to compensate for the new roll center.

This will seem like an odd question, but can you please tell/PM me the box's dimensions? Trying to figure something out.

No. They work with the stock tops, or you can get aftermarket plates for them. KW does make tops for some of their motorsports stuff but it is usually better to just use something else. RCE/GTworx and Vorshlag both have nice tops.

Pretty much went with the Stock Settings from the factory in the Setup guide and adjusted from there..

Everybody has a different opinion on where to setup the car... It really is a personal preference... I kinda like a little bit of tightness..so I set up my car accordingly.. What works for me might not be the best option for you... start with the factory settings... then learn to adjust from there..

17x9 with a 42. 245/40/17 Hankook RS-3's... I will be running in ST Class.. either STX or STR... the car with Coilovers can easily fit 265's if needed...probably will go up to a 255 for the extra gearing... topping out right now at 59.6 in 2nd.. so should easily be 61 or so with a bit taller tire.. 255/40/17
