Square Tires on Staggered Setup
This has been touched on before, but wanted to get some further input from those with experience in this.
I'm currently running the the Rota RT5's 9.5 rear 8.5 front. Have 235's on the front and 255's on back (Hankook V12). Car will not be FI until next year. Have most bushings installed, and T2 coils. Car is tuned and has full header back exhaust) Love the look, but for the current power output, the staggered setup (over sized rear tire) has changed the handling characteristics more than I was hoping for. I'd like to temporarily return to a square setup, but don't have the funds to buy a new set of wheels right now. Tires might be doable. For those that know, what would your thoughts be on running a 245 square setup all around? I recognize the front will look a bit meaty, and the rear may look a little stretched- what I'm most concerned about is more neutral handling, and less under-steer. Thoughts? WOuld this be a good setup for HPDE? Thanks! |

Modest changes in front/rear stagger shouldn't result in massive changes in balance. I would look at different tires than the Hankook V12 if handling feel is a priority, those are not highly rated for track use and are known to have somewhat squishy sidewalls, which is probably 90% of what you are feeling. If you don't need winter grip and want something good for the street and HPDE, I'd go with Dunlop Direzza ZII. Sizewise, ideally I'd want something like 245/35-18 front and 255/35-18 rear, but the ZII's and other Extreme Perf tires don't come in 245/35. Not many options for ~25" diameter tires in the Extreme Performance category... You could go 235/40-18 front with 255/35-18 rear, or 255/35-18 all around. Or you could go with Michelin Pilot SuperSports in 245/255, or 245 all around, or 255 all around.
Honestly, tire selection for this car is better in 17" sizes... |
