variable vane turbos

Why is it that no one has used variable vane turbos for our cars? I'd like t start a discussion on the pros and cons. I have a gt3782v that is currently a giant paperweight. I'm thinking that it would spool relatively early and could avoid excessive egt's with the size of the exhaust housing. What are your thoughts on something like this.

Search doesn't work well on mobile. Would you be kind enough to provide a link?

when people talk about variable vanes i think about turbine engines. the variable vanes in the t701d, uh-60 blackhawk engines, opens up to increase air and power. it is kept close until a certain power percentage is reach (NG). variable vanes in turbine engines change the angle on how the air is sent to the compressor, it uses the anti-ice start bleed valve to control the amount of air going into the compressor and diffuser. an actual design of such a turbo would make it pretty efficient but it would make the turbo pretty big.

It doesn't increase the physical size by very much. I would post a pic, but I'd have to resize it.

To compress that kind of adjustabikity into a turbo of reasonable size, it gets incredibly complicated very fast. And its a direct coorilation to the price as well. If you already have one like the OP said, then id contact JDL as in the thread i posted they said they were willing to help with a custom setup if i ever wanted to make one.

Expensive and overcomplicated when a twin scroll with a quick spool valve would work nearly as good Hell, even Honda knew that...

It's something you really see far more often on truck turbodiesels. I believe Ram trucks with the Cummins Turbodiesel have them as an option.

I'm not sure I can link it as it's not a vendor on these forums. Commonly used on Supras and they come right up in google...

quick spool valves close off one "scroll" on a twin scroll turbo until a certain boost pressure is reached. This allows you have a very big turbo with a relatively quick onset of boost.
