Horrible Micromarring from Dealership

Last November I picked up a 2016 Scion FRS sitting on the lot.

When I picked up the car, they told me their dealership detailed the car for me. Looking at it underneath the lights it actually didn't look that bad, surprisingly.

However, 2-3 washes afterwards the fillers they used washed out and I discovered awful micromarring and buffer streaks all over the car. That, as well as 7-10 bird drop etches in the roof of the car...it was unbearable.

Decided to fix that this weekend:

First washed the car with IronX and CG Wash and Gloss to strip anything remaining. As you can see, IronX did it's job.

Under the nights, the car was pretty bad. Tons of small scratches throughout the paint. Given the car only has 1500 miles at this point, it was in really poor shape

I went with my Makita 9227c with M205 and HDO Orange Pad. Followed up with HDO Black and Menzerna PO85RD.

Did GTechniq Panel Wipe and applied C1 over the paint for added protection. After full cure time I came back and did C2v3 spray.

Final Shots:

Looks good, nice work.

Is this similar to a Claybar treatment?

Still need to claybar, but takes a lot of work out of the clay bar and reduces the amount of effort needed to remove other contaminants within the paint.

IronX (And others like IronX) react and disolve only Ferrous Materials. So you still need clay bar to remove the non-ferrous materials.

As I near 70 I realize that these young'ins can't hold a candle to those of us weaned on Classic Car Wax!

Now it takes me 2 or more days to do my car right, with new washing and drying everyday.

The most important tool is my "lawn chair" to rest between polishing and waxing bouts and to admire my work!!

Aleve helps a lot too!!!!

Well, old man, you should consider a more comfortable chair (recliner) to takes breaks/naps in, between waxing panels .......

Yep, I still have about a 1/2 can of classic car wax ........ bought it in 1970 to wax my BRG MG ...... first and last time I used it......

Nope no Simonize for me I use Nu-Finish because it lasts a good long while , but I do miss the superior water beading of Classic Car Wax.

Before and after using just 1 can of Classic Car Wax!!!

Oh yes, back-in-the-day ...... one would say that they were going to "Simoniz" their car, when they referring to waxing it.

Simoniz was fine for Fords & Chevrolets ....... but when I got one of them exotic, foreign, import cars (MG) ..... I figured it needed a "Classic" car wax ......

I bet you remember MG Mitten and Villem B. Hahn catalogs from back in the day and Jack Brabham shorties?

As for a more comfortable chair my next move in 10 years or so will be a Hover- Round. The wicker basket on the front will be handy for supplies!!

Looks great...but I would have clay barred it after the IronX step. If you plan on clay barring now, you're going to have to do all of that all over again =\
