Random traction control and ABS lights?

So there I was driving home when all of the sudden the traction control and ABS lights turned on. When I parked I turned the car off and started it again and the lights were gone. I'm not too concerned about it, I just want to make sure it isn't a precursor to nuclear holocaust or something of the sort.

Shit Skynet!!!!!

Nah they are probably fine if they went back off. Sometimes the sensors pick up a weird signal.
If they come on and stay on or the cargoes into limp mode (low RPMs only and just limps along) then you may have a problem.
If it keeps happening then get it checked out, otherwise don't panic (unless of course you see a terminator behind you).

This may sound stupid but, I found that when I rested my hand on the console
I would at times actuate the switch turning off the TC /ABS. Once I figured that out, the "problem" went away. Maybe that's the issue you're having...???

Have you done any mods related to your break lights? I installed a 4th break light and those lights came on for me until I changed the ground location.

I have been having ABS/Trac lights as well, also have the rear fog light (triangle) wired up to the driver's side taillight. Can you tell me where did you ground the rear fog instead?

That was my first thought but I pressed the button and nothing happened.

Just installing new taillights, but that hardly counts.

I turn traction off all the time, and have never had an ABS light.

I thought the only way to get ABS off was to do the pedal dance. Even with traction "off" it's still on.

I originally had it grounded to the taillight bolt farthest to the drivers side. I changed it to the other taillight bolt closer to the center of the car and made sure I sanded the area really well so it was hitting bare metal. No issues since.

When I did have the problem, the third brake light in the rear window was staying on all the time too.

Some people in this thread had the problem with just taillights

Wheel speed sensor...You hit anything recently? Have you replaced the suspension? replaced brakes? Change your wheel bearings? Have you come in contact with the wire at any point in time...Make sure the speed sensor is connected tightly.

I had this issue...but I bought my car totaled and rebuilt it so that was the least of my concerns!

Yes, in their ultimate wisdom (or humour) the British Ministry of Defense decided to call their satelite network "Skynet". In fairness, I believe they were launched long before the movie was made.

No joke!

I just had this happen to me the other day! No lighting related mods :P

Just turned the car off & back on and then the lights went off. I think my car is trying to tell me to fill up on E85...

Yeah...that's definitely it. I shall obey its request.
