With an insurance quote this high, is it even worth owning a twin?
I've set my goal to purchase an fr-s by July and I just got around to my insurance to get a quote.
I had room in my budget for twice of what I pay on insurance now, but today I got a full coverage quote for a whopping $250 a month. A bit of a blow considering I was willing to pay up to $450 a month on the car loan itself(trying to pay down in 3-4 years). Just seeing an insurance payment of nearly half (or even more) of the loan itself just rubs me the wrong way. The way I look at it I'll basically be paying $31,000 for everything in the long run with insurance included by the time it is paid off, not to mention insurance payments thereafter. Is $250/month even in the ballpark of what most brz/fr-s owners pay on insurance? Is there a general round figure for how much insurance should cost vs. the cost of the car? Thanks |

I pay roughly $100/month for my frs. 26y/o male with a clean record. Did you see if there are any discounts you can use?

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=12 OP, there's no magic number or ratio as to how much insurance should cost in relation to the car. There are way too many factors to take into account and the only factor you should be considering is whether or not you can swing the payment. If you're balking at $250 a month, the answer is probably "no" for now. |

No I havent thought about discounts but I will definitely shop around. I'm 24 now but my tickets is probably what dictates the price. Nothing wreckless but a lot of companies I went to wouldn't even cover me with 3 of them.

And I can't think of a single ticket that isn't wreckless, even if they're parking tickets or 2 mph that still screams irresponsibility from a repeat offender. One, ok. Three is someone not taking notice and insurance companies are going to assess risk blindly from statistics, you will not argue yourself to a lower rate, especially not around here. Quote:
I even totaled a car when I was 17 but that's fallen off the record. ![]() Too many variables to make such generalizations. |

450/month holy F0ck!!! yeah dont do that.
I was 27 when i got the GTR and it was 130/month, geico even quoted me at 170/mo for the new viper. You could try asking ur parents to put the car under them, with you as a secondary driver, and just pay them. May help cut the rate down. |
