Click when stomping the gas...

I read that the intake opens and closes depending on how much air is needed...

It's pretty loud though. Could it be sticking or something? Or another problem all together?

No idea what is causing it?

It seems like it only happens when I got from no throttle and stop it...

Perfect description.

I can take a sound clip later if I remember.

And yes it is 6MT.

It sounds like transient detonation. Try to change gear a little easier and ensure your foot is off the clutch before you go back on the throttle.

I googled that and couldn't really find put what it meant. Can you elaborate?

Well, historically it means that the ECU/sensors in the car couldn't keep up with your movements, so when rapidly change something (e.g. the throttle) then for a split second the timing would be too advanced and you'd get a little click of light det/knock/pinking. It's not normally an issue.

However, I would expect better from a modern car, fast electronics, complex calibration/strategies. I too get some 'tip-in det'. Tip-in means when go into a change, e.g. from 0% to 100% throttle. Tip-out is the opposite, so if you reverse the action.

There are control strategies and tables in the ecu which are supposed to handle transients and knock should not happen. It sounds as if the behaviour is worse on 91 AKI. I run equiv. of 93 AKI (98RON) and I do get some tip-in det when driven poorly (e.g. medium engine speed, quick gear changes, some clutch slipping).

Some folk think it's because the mixture is lean but to be honest there's not enough time during a transient for a lean/hot mixture to cause det, it's 99% likely to be due to spark angle at the time.

There's nothing you can do as a consumer really other than a) complain at your dealer (who will just say it's normal), b) change gear a bit nicer.

Wouldn't the latest ROM fix the issue? I know US dealers may not have access to it yet, but it's available through tuners, no?

No, this is a different transient det behaviour. The one apparently killer injector seals only happens above 5200rpm when you change gear < 600ms.

Note, I said 'behaviour' and not 'problem'.
