Driven Transmission Fluid

Since I bought my 2013 FRS I've had problems with my manual transmission. It was grinding when on 5th gear when I shift above 5,000 rpm. I showed this to the dealer and they reluctantly replaced my transmission. The head mechanic there was lecturing me in how should I drive the car. He indicated that I should drive less aggressively. Yeah right.

After some miles on the new transmission it was grinding on 4th instead of 5th. I tried fixing it myself by changing transmission fluid with Toyota, Subaru, Mobil, RedLine and Amsoil. All of them were 75W-90. All of them did not solve the problem. 44,000 some miles later I was ready to give up on this car. But before doing that I decided to give it one more try.

I contacted Speed, Jr and he recommended Driven Oil STF. I read the online description and it stated "Recommended for manual transmissions that require automatic transmission fluid, multi-viscosity or straight grade motor oil." Automatic Transmission fluid? What? Despite that it did not specify that it is a 75W-90 like OEM recommended I decided to use it.

It works. It actually works. No more grinding on shifting to 4th or 5th. I emailed Speed, Jr to give more details about their product but did not go in detail in regards to the secret sauce.

Looking at the MSDS, it starts off relatively thick and gets very thin.

As it's not the proper spec for the transmission, any future warranty issues could be an issue...
