How to: CANADIAN Avic X9310BT - Rearview Camera :UPDATED
Hi all,
For all the Canadian BRZ people out there heres a few pictures and notes from my install. (links to all parts at the bottom) Installation was pretty straight forward: -remove trunk liner, -undo plaque bolts, -measure cam location, -drill hole, (I used this drill bit to be more precise) -feed wires thru hole with grommet, -feed through existing rubber grommet into interior, -solder on longer section of wires. -run along body, zip-tying as you go, -feed into back of headunit, -wire it all up and done. ...see simple lol The purple wire below is what tells the headunit that you're in reverse. It's wrapped in the existing harness, so you will need to strip and then run a jumper to the rear tail light wire in the driver side wheel well. The tiny pink wirebelow is the power wire for the reverse lights. It's hidden behind the cover where your hood release is by the pedals. You run the jumper wire from the purple wire to this little guy. Wiring: 1. Yellow AV connector (from Camera) went to the Brown connector (from harness). 2. Red +power wire (from Camera) was spliced into a Red wire (from existing harness) to gain the +12VDC, only when the car was on. 3. Black -power wire (from Camera) was attached to one of the grounding bolts on the body of the car, behind the head unit 4. Purple wire (from existing harness) was jumpered to the pink rear light signal wire in (driver side wheel well) Parts used: Camera - http://dx.com/p/eagleyes-ec-th1009-1...-dc-12v-195193 Harness - [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Assembly-Harness-Pioneer-X9310BT/dp/B0088HRFJG/#productDetails"]Amazon.com: Subaru Replacement RCA Cord Assembly AV Radio Harness for Pioneer Avic X9310BT.: Car Electronics[/ame] - 20ft of 24 gauge wire for all extensions. - 1 rubber grommet. - zip ties - black tape / crimps / splicers / soldering iron Let me know if you have any questions. cheers - Jimmilion. UPDATE: Well seems the "waterproofing" isn't what it made out to be. The first frost this season proved to much the camera. The lens is frosted over from the inside.... pretty disappointing, but it's still useable.

To be perfectly honest, not great but you can still make things out.
I did a LED conversion for my reverse lights and still not much of an improvement. I can see everything up to the yellow guide lines (approx 2 feet) but no much after that. I'll grab you a picture one day.

Looks like I have my next project! So how did you route the wires back to the head unit so that they are hidden in the interior?

I'm guessing this guide was useful for routing the wires: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30144 And I'm thinking of using this camera and mounting it where one of the license plate bolts go (similar to the beat sonic install): http://dx.com/p/e366-compact-vehicle...12v-ntsc-50507 |

Protrip: for feeding the wires throught the rubber gromet from the trunk door to the car interior, spray a tiny bit of WD-40 in there and they all slide right thru.

What you need is a video "in" so that you can get the image from the camera. Unfornaturely only way to get that is either make or buy the extra harness that has that input.

Thanks for the write up I did this today. I added a slight variation to the wiring procedure.
For the Reverse wire I wired it up to a harness behind stereo that is used for stock back up camera, as indicated in picture it is the orange/white wire. Saves time having to run to footwell. Only compliant I can give about the camera is the angle seems to point down a lot, besides that it is awesome. Thanks Last edited by jtsimaras; 07-02-2015 at 08:43 PM. |

the camera angle looks like mine, pointed all the way down to the ground and not up so you can actually see behind you. I need to make a wedge shaped shim to angle the camera back up.

Agree I bought a different camera on ebay and same result. I'm going to make a plastic wedge from some left over interior panels I have kicking around.

Post a shot when you're done, I think many people would benefit from these hacks.
