Rearview camera without drilling holes

Got this camera:

And installed it where the key barrel used to be.

This camera is very small and is hardly noticeable:

Works great at night.

The camera came with a long enough RCA cable included so all it cost me was $20 plus some electrical wire and easy splice clips. Very happy with the result.

Thanks to @Ryan86 for finding this camera in the first place.

Looks good Sav. How easy was it to install - do you have to remove any of the panels other than the inside trim?

Thanks. It took some time but was easy enough.

Removed the plastic piece as pictured above to fit the camera as well as the boot trim on the left hand side and the one panel by the left hand side door to run the wires through. Power for the camera as well as head unit reverse trigger wires are fed from the reverse light.

There are 2 wires running to the radio - trigger wire and RCA.

That doesn't sound too problematic - will need to check out how the plastic piece comes off though. One other question regarding the head unit trigger wire if you don't mind - doesn't the existing wiring harness contain a trigger wire to avoid the need to run one from the boot or were you able to tap into a reverse feed near the HU itself?

I've also read about the existing harness but when testing with a multimeter it didn't look like it was working. Might be different on the FR-S so worth trying that first.

No problem at all. Shout if you need any advice.

The panels are really easy to remove, the one by the door simply pops out. The piece on the boot uses 8mm nuts, just be careful not to drop them into the boot.

Do the stock head units (for the BRZ) have the IO to plug one of these in without modification?

What did you do with the key barrel? Just remove it and rely on the remote?

Yep, removed it and sealed the hole after pulling the camera's wires through.

I've never used or needed a key to open the trunk on any car I've owned over the last 10 years so I doubt it'll ever be a problem.

Exactly, you don't need it. With a license plate your key probably wouldn't fit anyway unless you've got keyless entry in which case the tiny pull out key fits fine.
