Maybe even before that. I didn't know at first that Subaru would be involved, but immediately wanted another RWD Toyota sports car. I nursed my MR2 for years waiting for the release.

Push pedal part way down, not far enough to release the clutch

Throwout bearing will spin, pilot bearing will not.

I have the same hot-oil smell, same car with 2800 miles. I smell it in the car and haven't been able to locate it any further. Haven't noticed it outside.
