Agreed.

I would also add this;

Seems like some dealers are forgetting to install the grommets underneath the car, which could cause water to get into the interior

WTF 07-14-2012 09:12 AM

I don't know if you guys get the same head units, but mine is doing weird stuff where sometimes the music is really faint, but calls come through loud.. Have to reboot headunit..

Conversely, sometimes the music comes through loud and the calls come through quiet.. same thing - reboot.

Weirdly enough as well, to get music playing, I have to hit 'volume up' on my iphone..

these are all just quirks, mainly with the headunit I think.

Rossman 07-14-2012 09:12 AM

Can you add PDI issues dealers might have missed, ie. the two I can think of off the top of my head are:

- Setting the factory headunit to FR-S mode
- Checking that those plugs over the rear struts are installed (EDIT: what Goku said, above this post)

You don't have the speed-based volume adjustment enabled, do you? I turn that shit off as its always doing wacky stuff to the volume that I don't like.

If you guys want to add new problems/topic please post link if theres a thread already. Thanks

Pscylo 07-14-2012 09:36 AM

...there is separate volume levels stored for phone and music...

also, unless your audio doesn't come out at all until you reach max volume level on the phone, its normal...the volume used for music on the phones is more often than not controlled by the media volume, which is also shared by speaker volume - when people talk on speakerphone, or watch videos on the phone, they run that volume down to decent levels, and once it reconnects to your car, combined with the cars audio lvl it usually seems low, until you turn it up on the phone.

I have an issue with my paint. There's a weird line on my D/S 1/4 panel that a coworker pointed out. I never even noticed it. Now that he pointed it out, it's driving me nuts. It's not a shadow line either. The only time it's not visible is when there is no direct light on the area.

Are you sure it's not from a sticker that was on when delivered? I have a few of those still on my car. It appears they waxed over these lines on my WRB BRZ.

I have the same... They waxed over mine so I'm hoping when I put my own on after a claybar it will take them up. If it doesn't then I'll be surprised, but we'll see!

Positive. I added arrows to the pictures to show where the line is that I'm talking about. It definitely in the paint and not shadows or anything. It's visible when there is direct sunlight on that side of the car. As you can see in the pictures, it doesn't follow the body lines and is a little wavy. I'll see if I can get an HD video of it if the sun ever comes back out today.

Here's bigger pics with no thumbnails

see these cars are literally brand new.. now if theres any concerns you may have you shouldnt hesitate to bring it to your dealer asap! and address the problems you may have.. so it can be either be taken care of or documented if its not a known issue yet.. if i had that streak of line in my brand new car i would immediately bring it back! and either they fix it or get another one..

ruskymx 07-14-2012 04:02 PM

I work at a Toyota dealer so I'm sure it will be taken car of one way or another. I showed it to the service department already along with my taillight condensation, and D/S front speaker grill popping out, told them about the idle issue, and I have some noise that I am not sure if it's normal or not so I had them check it out. They aren't sure what it is either. They want to be able to drive another manual FRS to see if makes the same noise.

Bonburner 07-14-2012 04:08 PM

haha well let me drive you guys nuts some more ..
there are lines on the top of the car parallel to the front windshield and the back on the roof.
They're less than an inch away from both sides roughly.
also those lines on the rear fenders that should be a line that goes down also (think of a right angle).
apparently these lines are from the paper used to transfer the cars on the trucks

Style 07-14-2012 04:13 PM

thank you. I had the smell of burning wires coming from the engine when I drove off the lot and was a bit worried, but now that I read this I think I'm good.

I think mine might be doing that neutral clunk. I'll have to investigate it more. I'd like to hear what the guy who had it found out.

basically its a normal thud .. this car makes this sound almost everytime and you just have to be gentle with the clutch and be patient.. lol

No, I mean the one where he was pushing in the clutch in neutral and it was making a noise, not shifting.

I have no idea what can be done about this, and I've already confirmed with with at least 6+ frs/brz owners... but I am going to call it the "infamous moist triangle" in the rear window right above the 3rd brake light. Has anyone reported this one yet?

alrashwa 08-06-2012 03:04 PM

Yes, I've seen the moisture collect around the 3rd brake light. Makes rear-visibility a little tougher but I saw similar issues with my old RX-7 and 300zx. Might just be the lack of square footage in the car + us breathing. Least of my worries right now, since mine won't even idle stable.

Subie 08-14-2012 06:46 PM

You should add my thread to the list as I've had several reports from other users of the same or a similar problem. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10986

Can you add mine too if you can?

The moist triangle wouldnt really be a defect. I am quite sure it is caused by the tenperature of the glass directly above the centre mount brake lamps on a hot day when the a/c is on. It is condensation as a result of temperatures merging at the glass.

civicdrivr 08-15-2012 05:13 PM

I dont have the moist triangle issue, or at least Ive never noticed it.

Yuck 08-20-2012 02:05 PM

Hi everyone!! I just purchased an black FRS automatic from Toyota in SF, but I do have an very sad story about my car.

My car was purchased on Sunday the 12th and I only had it for 24 hours. What had happened was when I was driving the car, I had heard something rattling in the car while just driving down the street, I pulled over to make sure it wasn't anything major...then I noticed as I'm pulled over their is oil all over the floor. I get the car towed to the dealership that evening to find out the results the next day....

Supposedly, their was a loose bolt behind the steering wheel that had shot into my motor while driving which pretty much shredded my entire motor destroying the transmission head valve. Toyota and Scion corp. came down and inspected my car to make sure I didn't do any wreckless driving, but obviously I wouldn't be able to because I only had the car for one day! I just wanted to share this story to just make sure you test drive it thoroughly! They did order me a new car and I should be receiving it at the end of this month, I'll let you guys know how it goes!

cnk 08-20-2012 03:08 PM

I'm confused. How does a loose bolt on the steering wheel get "shot" into the engine?

civicdrivr 08-20-2012 03:16 PM

I was confused about that as well.
