Lucky forum member titusdrake just got some seat time in the Scion FR-S, courtesy of Toyota. He was the recipient of such an experience all due to a questionnaire he completed 2 months ago. He asked in the questionnaire whether he would even fit in the car (being 6’5″ and 330 pounds). A month later he received communications letting him know that Toyota/Scion would fly him to SoCal to experience the FR-S himself.

He not only got to sit in the car, but test drove it, as well as speaking to the folks at Scion.

BRZ and FR-S are showing up on dealer showroom floors throughout the country and many of our members have already had a chance to get up close and personal, though not usually as personal as this.

Member Deslock had some time with the BRZ and had the foresight to bring along a tape measure, as well as remembering to take photos of things rarely seen before or of interest to our community. Check out the photos INSIDE.

Great news for all BRZ/86/FR-S fans worrying about limited production numbers!

Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, a president of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. announced late last week a goal to produce 100,000 units per year of the BRZ, FR-S, and 86, which are produced jointly on the same line at the Subaru Gunma factory (in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture.)

Since the introduction on February 2, 7,000 orders of the Toyota 86 have been placed, which are as seven times the monthly sales target, while 2,500 orders for the Subaru BRZ have been placed since its on February 3 – which is 5.6 times as the original target.

With the FR-S/86/BRZ being one of the most sports focused cars to hit the market in years, it has already become an auto enthusiasts darling. With that, should come a robust aftermarket. Toyota is not only aware of this, but encouraging it.

Scion recently hosted a FR-S measurement and inspection session at the Toyota US HQ in Torrance, CA. Many aftermarket tuning companies were invited and given a chance to inspect and measure the FR-S for parts development and plans, inside and out.

After four years of development and months of showcasing the car to the press and public, the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ have officially begun production starting today, March 16!

Toyota and Subaru celebrated the occasion with a ceremony at the Gunma Plant where the jointly developed cars will be built. Check out some words and photos from the event INSIDE.
