I think it's a great all around car that'd I rather own over many others, including the latest STI and Evo. If they had brought the 2 door with a manual transmission, it would have been on my short list for second card / daily commuter.

I may go test drive a fully loaded autobahn GTI to get a general feel for the R. preorder starts Jan 8th for the dsg only. I really miss driving manual, but dsg is as fun you think?

The four door WRX or STI are good options for something similar to the Golf GTI or Golf R able to be used as a small family car.

I test drove both with my wife but she decided she was too old to be seen driving a WRX or STI even if I took the big wing off.

My parents have a DSG Jetta, and to be honest I'm not a fan of it...Just doesn't feel right. I liked my 1998 Maxima automatic more.

Any reason as to why you haven't looked into a new WRX or STI?

It seems to be the type of car you're interested in, but at the same time it looks like you're very into the VW.

2015 WRX's (without the wing) look almost note for note like the current gen Civic with a different front end. IMO Golf's don't look any more mature.

The DSG is OK when new. It sucks from a stop, jerking when it enters first unless you give a full second of wait before moving. That just gets worse as the car ages. It takes effort to drive smoothly. Is it better than it used to be? Maybe, but I think it's crap, especially when the GTI manual is so easy to drive. The TDI clutch is crap, though. Not sure why they're so different.

Anyway, VWs are like Infinitis. I see on paper how they're awesome, but I can never actually buy one. There's always something better. And sadly, VW reliability is pretty crappy overall. That's why I didn't get another BMW. I got sick of time spent at the dealership.

Not many mixed reviews on the mk7 DSG.

Even early generation Toyota autos were shite. Technology does improve. I don't regret the DSG at all. All the feedback above is on mk6 or earlier.

I thought I read its the same DSG system from the MK6 in an article. They say its both great options, I do enjoy my AT in my BRZ, and if I do, I have a feeling I will enjoy the DSG as well.

Next week sometime, I'll go test drive the GTI, perhaps the DSG and not the manual to see if I like it or not. Assuming they are the same ones installed in the R.
