Question Toyota Paint Protection Package

I ordered my Pegasus white 86 GTS manual last week on the 20th of June(September build, October delivery) and also purchased the Paint Protection package which includes rust protection, interior protection, sound deadener, tint and of course paint protection for $1000.

Now the sales guy described the paint protection as you would describe opti-seal. No need to wax, 'like a second clear coat', just rinse with high pressure hose etc. He also said that the 3 year warranty on the protection is only valid if I don't wax and polish the car and that he will give me a 'special' shampoo for the car to not void the warranty.

I'm not too sure of the quality of this paint protection nor am i sure if getting this package is worth $1000..

What are your opinions and is it too late to cancel the paint protection package?

just call up and speak to them, should be ok to cancel it. as long as u haven't already paid for it. and tbh do not use any armorall products. they're all crap and leave residue marks. personal experience with them = no good

thats bullshit. none of that stuff happens until they take delivery of your car. I went through the same thing and called them 2 days later and told them to take it off the contract. be firm with them!

If it's on the contract you signed legally you're obliged to buy it.
I'd suggest speaking to the manager and piping up, you have a reasonable chance of getting the contract changed I'd say.

And it's definitely nothing like the quality of opti-coat. At best it protects like a good-quality sealant such as Klasse.

The reason they wouldn't want to take it off the contract is because it's the highest margin % they can receive for any product other than "dealer delivery"

Its all shit......
Rust proofing - why? The materials used these days are nothing like the old kingswoods/falcons/datsuns and have very different water draining setups for this reason. Unless you plan to keep your car for 20yrs and never clean it, then rust proofing is nothing but

Sound deadener - A shitty spray they paste on the underbody of your car that does pretty much stuff all but make a mess. If your THAT keen on sound deadening....then get a shed load of dynamat fitted throughout your car. Will add a heap of weight but it will give you the noise cancellation that you may want.

Interior protection - Has its merits, especially if you like to drop food and thickshakes on your seats. A detailer can provide this for you for a much better price.

All in all, dont blame your self for signing upto this 'protection package' as they are bloody good at talking people into buying it. The markup on this stuff is rediculous (i have worked in the industry so I have seen what they do!!)
If its on your contract, then you have signed to say that you will be purchasing it, so your chances of walking away without it are slim.

You haven't taken custody of the car yet. You should be able to change the options.

If they don't take that off, cancel the order, go somewhere else.

I wouldn't worry too much about it, just don't bother trying to keep the so called 'warranty' on it. At least you get tint, but I'd tell them exactly what % tint you want, and if it's not up to standard, don't accept it. Interior protection is great, and all you need to clean it is a damp cloth. Sound deadening might be very useful (I haven't driven an 86 yet), and rust proofing is good too. $1k is on the expensive side, but if you got tint and paint protection done elsewhere, it'll cost you around $700 - $800 anyway.

I got the same package from the same dealer, $1.1k, and yeah considering I got tint and reverse sensors for free, they prob made up for some of that in the price. Did feel kinda ripped off after. But trying to find any unbiased, objection info/comparisons on the net is too hard.

Everyone seems to be split between those who get it done themselves (the opticoaters/self detailers) who need to justify the saving. And those who got it/work at dealers, who need to justify the purchase.

There doesnt seem to be people who have no vested interest either way. I see it now as a learning experience, if it works then it works, great, ill know next time whether to get it or not. The real test is summertime when the 86 is baking in the sun everyday outside. Best thing would just be resale value cos you have a certificate that says you got all that stuff on it - bargaining chip.

The dealer cant bash a product theyre gonna push on you in 5 mins, so they have to accept it adds some value
