3M Paint Protection Film and Vehicle Shield Package?

I'm talking to a local dealer about an FR-S, and they have a ton of options added to it, increasing the price significantly. Some of the options are the 3M Paint Protection Film and Vehicle Shield Package. Are any of these worth the money, or just pretty much markups?

Detailed listing:
3M 3M Paint Protection Film
P2 Vehicle Shield Package
- Lusterizing Sealant
- Sealant Cleaner
- Fabric Guard
- Rental Car Assistance

My opinion only, but the 3M PPF film is pretty much the same price, if not slightly better, than quotes I've gotten elsewhere although I would trust a outside specialist more to do it.

Everything with a "dash" is just a money making scheme ripoff for the dealer.

The dealer had already put the protection film on our hood before we test drove it... Honestly, it catches wax on the edges like it's going out of style. They didn't, however, put it on the front bumper then asked us to "upgrade" for $650 which we declined.

The vehicle shield package is a GST thing (TX, LA, MS, OK and AR). Most of teh benefit you get is the insurances that come with each of those products (for instance on the fabric gaurd, if you spill osmethign and can't clean the stain they clean it for you, and if they cant get it out they recover the seat for free). The Rental car assistance is also nice to have.

Whether its worth the money is kind of secondary because once its applied it cant be taken back off as far as I know.

I didn't get the 3M on mine (wish I had) but I did get the vehicle shield package.

Those are dealer installed, not port installed so they can be taken off the price, regardless of them being on the car already. It will be a battle, but it's possible.

I thought the original warranty stated something about rental car something or other, maybe that was road side assistance, can't remember.

As badly as I want the car, I think I'm going to have to pass on this then. I'm not willing to pay that much more for these extras that I don't really care for.

Nope - in GST they are port installed. GST & SET are privately owned distributorships. They do things differently than the rest of the country.

Still worth asking to take it off if you don't want it though.

Scion Service Boost has roadside assistance. The factory will give you a loaner car, but only if the repair keeps the car overnight.

I got hit with the same stuff - $700 or so of markups. I'm just biting the bullet and going for it.

The roads around here are terrible and there are tons of 18 wheelers always spilling loose rocks everywhere on the highways, so I think in the end I'll be happy I went for it.

You can probably clean the wax off with a tooth brush. I have the 3M PPF on my S2000 and there are no wax build ups...because I don't use wax. Do yourself a favor and protect the finish of your car with Zaino products

The FR-S I just leased comes with the rear bumper applique and the protection for the hood and I assume fenders.

I don't like the "Scion" on the rear bumper, and up close it almost looks like the line where the protection ends is a big scratch on the hood.

I wonder if its easy to remove?

Yea. The price of a repaint in 5 years due to rock chips will probably be more than the price of the hood/fender protection film.

I should mention my uncle has it on all of his cars, and recommended I get it.

GST installed the 3M film on mine. It is on the nose, hood, front edge of the fenders, mirrors and on the door edges. Cost was around $300.00 for everything.
I did not want it but it was installed on the car anyway.

Well, you ~will~ regret not getting the full mask applique... I picked up my car (H8R MT) yesterday and as my aftermarket guy didn't have the 3M kit in stock, took it for a short drive, about 50 miles. Looking it over today, I noted a fleabite chip in the vertical surface of the front bumper. Damn. Now I have to wait for the touch-up paint before I can have the mask applied.
Just do it, you won't regret it.
Shop around, my aftermarket guy is doing it for $480.00; full kit, hood and bumper area. Dealer wanted $780.00.
No contest.

my 2 cents.

I didn't like the scion logo either, so I took it off. And yes it comes off easily. Here's my recommendation: use a plastic putty knife or other PLASTIC "razor" to lift a corner. Use a hair dryer to heat the surface, but not so hot that it burns to touch it. Pull the vinyl off at 180 degrees...not 90. Use a smooth speed to pull it off. If you go to slow, glue will remain (You will probably have some that remains as you are starting to pull it off anyway.) if you go to fast the vinyl will rip. When the sticker is off, clean up the glue residue with WD-40. It's safe on paint, albeit a little slow. I wouldn't recommend a solvent like acetone. Alcohol didn't work too well. I also tried to remove the last bits of glue with a clay bar and that didn't really work, so went back to the WD-40 using a q-tip. Just be patient with any residue and the WD-40 will definitely take it off. Clean up with a de-greaser like P21S, and make sure to put a sealant/wax on after. I used black fire wet diamond.
