Do you aim for perfect parking?

I try to make it a mini-game to see how well I can park my car, instead of "merely" getting within the lines.

I aim for this:

I rarely get it right.

I like parking backwards whenever I have a chance and there's not a lot of cars, makes it easier to get out and looks cool

I want to add that I don't back up and repark if it's not perfect. That's going a little overboard.

I'm hoping that over time my success rate with perfect parking gradually increases. Right now I estimate my rate to be under 15% in my slot at home. One of the reasons is that I don't have a long "runway" leading up to the slot in which I can drive straight into it and tweak the steering as I advance. It's a pretty tight underground parking area, so I'm pretty much going into my slot on a curve.

I always park like this, but I'm so good @ it I don't need to try or adjust most of the time. 👻

Drive up & park.l, done in 1go. It very easy if you have a good sense of how wide/how long your car is while in it.

*it took me a while to know where my front lip is when I park thou.

Funny you bring this up because I just noticed the other day that I always seem to park on about a 10 degree angle between the lines. This is not a deliberate action but I am very regular with it.
I am afraid I may be gradually morphing into a Porsche driver!

I usually back in, too, but not because it looks cool. I do it because it's easier and more precise, and lets you get into tight spaces (in the unfortunate event that you have NO choice other than to park close to potential inconsiderate/unaware door-ding-producers) with more control. When you turn your front wheels, you make relatively large changes in the direction your front end goes, but the car sort of pivots on the back wheels since they don't change angles and the back end doesn't move a great deal. Soo.. when backing in, you have very precise control of where the back end is headed because of how relatively little it moves in an arc compared to the front of the car. It's sort of like the "lever" principle; you're now using the long end of the lever to control the short end, instead of the other way. Pulling in nose-first is actually more difficult and less precise, once you get used to both methods.

OCD... it's not just a hobby, it's a way of life. Don't leave home without it... but DO leave home!

Best,

Barry

I typically park as shown in the diagram in the OP with a couple of exceptions:

I also center the car front to back, never have understood folks that want to overhang the curb...

I usually try to park in a space with a curb to either side, and when I do I park towards the curb leaving additional space on the driver's side.

When possible I pull forward so I am facing the front (basically as if I had backed in). I will walk further for the opportunity to pull forward and to park next to a curb.

Yeah I think once you do enough times it becomes quite easy to park "perfectly" especially for those of us that have to park backwards

For instance with my 9-5 Aero I can't park next to certain curbs (bottom of the door will smack into them) and I have to park backwards in spots with concrete parking stops or I WILL rip my front bumper (and this is all before I lower the car haha)

I prefer full-blown 90's car show parking. At an angle across three spaces. Wheel completely locked to one side. Hood, doors, and trunk open.

I always back in my car. I was taught this from working at various shops and dealerships. It reduces the chance of an accident in the lot. When backing into a spot it's pretty easy to see your surroundings. Backing out of a spot is a little harder since these cars are pretty low to the ground and a lot of the view is obstructed by other cars parked next to you. Plus, it feels good to just be able to pull out easily and drive away.
