Let's talk about lift kits...

Most people it seems have been lowering their GT86, but I've only seen a couple of them lifted - ever so slightly. With this in mind, what are my options for lifting my FR-S?

Naturally you're probably wondering what my ultimate goal is?

Not sure. I'd love to have one of those muscle-car-converted-to-off-roader type of cars, but with the modern styling of an Asian import. Not a mudder or rock crawler, just something that can handle non-pavement and look the part.

Bigger tires are a must, which would necessitate smaller wheels. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

So what are my options or where should I look/talk with?

I dont think this is the right car for that TBH. There are rally kits out there though. I will see if I can find one for you.

Talk with nameless performance. Their GT86/FRS/BRZ rally car seems to be pretty competitive. They can probably help you set up something that meet your needs.

The world needs more 86 rally builds.

Lift spacers are easy enough, I lifted my STI and loved it. If I use this car in the winter I would do lift this too

Lift spacers are easy & cheap .. but they do nothing to shock travel, just rise initial ground clearance. I'd rather try to get coilovers with more travel for rallying purposes. That TRD one sounds interesting. Nameless .. yes, they made nice rally car .. but wasn't it with completely custom designed rally suspension not so much attributable to car for common folks/common budget levels? As for myself .. i found my GT86 fun & drivable enough on reasonable quality gravel roads even on stock suspension. Of course given my lack of skills and not going competitively fast. Just faster then normal driving and sideways on turns

I was also in the weird awkward group of folks who wanted a lift. Granted, I just needed about an inch or so, so it wasn't as extreme as you. I was able to get my lift with a combination of my Ohlins (ride height adjustable) and slightly taller tires (moving from 215/45 to 225/45).

Its actually surprisingly easy to get some off road/rally suspension for this car since th fronts are WRX and the rears are legacy, but it would most likely cost you a pretty penny (the limiting factor would be the control arms, be ready for lots of custom fabrication work).

I would suggest the Subtle solutions spacers

along with a smaller wheel and taller tires.

Dirtfish did exactly what I've mentioned above: custom valved & rebuildable coilovers like their sti's along with custom built control arms and subframe (to match the added travel). Since they are a school and service their own cars, they lean more towards ease of maintenance vs all out performance.

I don't know if Nameless are still on the same dampers as when they started their rally build but they started off with MCA Golds which is a weird choice given that MCA are a small (3 people) Australian damper designer/builder with, to the best of my knowledge, no overseas support.
