is there an obvious alternative?
Just got the October edition of Car magazine today it has a review of the Cosworth GT86 and a group test between a GT86 Aero vs MX5 vs Audi TT Roadster... are they really the alternatives?
I can't think of a true alternative and I didn't consider anything else when I got my BRZ. |

uhmm.. I considered multiple different cars before getting my frs...
Like the Genesis Coupe. much bigger and heavier than frs... Basically Korean mustang. Nissan 370z. Out of the price point and heavier. 2016 camaro ss (this was a very very short consideration )Evo, Sti both wayy too expensive. Now that I think of it there really isn't much people can compare these cars too.. Price point and performance wise.

^^ 370z
Also - depending on if this is a second car or your situation - used Elise/Porsche. |

Yep, I am struggling to find a true alternative, size, weight, price and handling. It has to be sought out whilst the other cars are really very accessible and obvious especially in the UK. I think only about 300 BRZs on the road in the UK since its launch.

The only other car I thought about getting was a used Cayman S or an MX-5, but the parcel shelf rear seat won me over.

Ohhh he meant which car we have considered when getting a BRZ?
It was a BRZ or used E92 M3 for me. Good thing I've got a BRZ since I can't seem to control my 200hp beast at the track. LOL |

I agree. I was considering a 370z because I used to own a 300zx TT.. but just the fact that the frs HAS the back seats won me to get the frs. That and the frs looks more stunning than a 370z.

There is one car you can compare the FRS/GT86 to, the BRZ.
Otherwise there are almost no cars that also have RWD, lightness, great handling, and under $30K |

The S2000 getting rather long in the tooth and the M3 a different thing don't you think? Front engined, RWD, a finely balanced chassis and lightweight.

The 86 fills a hole in the segment no automaker was touching. It has no direct competitors. "Lightweight", 2+2 Sports cars built on dedicated Sports Car Chassis. The only ones I could think of are:
Did I miss any? With the 86, those looking for a DD the extra +2 and fold down back seat make the car liveable. Its' low weight make it fun, dynamic and economic. It's 2 door coupe configuration makes it sexy. A lot of cars people compare the 86 too really aren't in its' segment. 2 seaters - Not practical for a DD Roadsters - Also not practical for a DD 2+2 muscle cars - Heavy, not chuckable Sport Sedans - Heavy, not sexy enough FWD Hot Hatches - Too practical, unsexy, torque steer, lack balance & feel Any others? |

There is one FWD that would be worth seeking out, Renault Clio 200 Cup.
