Need Advice

One day I found some type of grease or oil on the roof of my car, and it wouldn't come off with regular car washes. Someone told me I should use orange degreaser on it and I did.

The grease came off (some of it is still left) but I noticed the degreaser was eating away the wax (or my clear coat).

I stopped immediately, so I was unable to remove all of the grease, and now that spot on my car is no longer shiny/glossy anymore.

Any ideas on what I should use to remove the rest of the grease and restore that area to match the rest of the car?

See the attached picture,

Thanks.

You may want to specifically use a polish (rather than a wax) or worst case scenario, a rubbing compound. These will help restore the shine assuming that its the clearcoat that is damaged.

If its down to the paint I would ignore my comment.
Good luck!

^^ Bingo. Assuming your dealing with clearcoat, you should use a CAR SPECIFIC degreaser / bug and tar type cleaner to get the rest off, then use a light compound or scratch remover to polish up the clear coat. Finish with polish and wax.

Be gentle and take your time, never apply too much pressure especially with a compound.

Well, @luelanski, so now you know that the "orange stuff" is good to get grease off hands ...... but not so good for car paint ......

I'd suggest you use some alcohol to make sure you got all the grease off.

Then clay bar the entire roof.

Try a little wax on the spot to see if the shine returns.

If not, like mentioned above, try a bit of polish ...... or mild rubbing compound.

Wax after each experiment ..... but if it didn't work, take the wax off with alcohol before the next experiment.

If that doesn't work, make yourself a vodka grapefruit juice drink or two, then take a nap.

By that time, more suggestions will crop up on this thread.
