towhook License plate kit

Are there any of these that are reasonably priced? Everything seems to be $80 or more for a piece of metal. Am I crazy in thinking this is a ton of money to move the license plate a foot?

Do you know of any twin running this? I would want to see how it looks like on our vehicle. Also, what if you have a kit?

I know there are few that have it but don't remember who. Hopefully they will chime in.
The plate drilled into the bumper doesn't bother me so I have never done much investigation I just knew these hide a plates things existed.

I put one of the CravenSpeed ones on my wife's Mini. Quality was great. Looked into making one myself, and the problem is the odd trapezoidal thread pitch. Not easy to make in small quantities.

Probably one of those things where they (OEM Engineers) use an intentionally obscure thread pitch to keep people from putting hardware store quality bolts in there and hurting themselves. Kind of like lug nuts.

I say the same about many car parts molded out of plastic or metal that's made in china for next to nothing but I come to accept that if you wanna mod your car...you're gonna empty your bank account to do it. :P

Anyways, try ebay or make your own if you're feeling like McGyver. (BTW, I have the grimmspeed kit and the build quality is fantastic! Can't go wrong with perrin or grimmspeed stuff.)

I have the Grimmspeed kit on my car. I paid $78.94 all in for it from Amazon, and I feel like I got my money's worth. It's more adjustable than most of the kits out there so that you can get it in just the position, angle and depth you think looks best. At the same time, it's pretty solid and secure.

I don't think I would bother with that hidden plate thing. Seems like it would end up getting knocked off our cars. If I really needed to hide the plate for a car show (yeah, right), I could have the Grimmspeed mount off my car in a couple of minutes.

I haven't seen another kit yet that I thought would have been better than the one I bought. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and spend the money for the best solution.

The Grimmspeed is the $80 one, I guess it is better than Raceseng's $150 one.

The Craven one is still $80 too. I guess y'all are probably right, you get what you pay for...

You could always just buy a used one that pops up on the forums, that will save you some cash. I have the grimmspeed kit, it was the first thing I bought for the car so I didn't have to drill any holes in my car. Great quality.

The Raceseng one looks interesting, but looking at how it's put together, I would be more confident in the Grimmspeed. When you adjust the angle on the Grimmspeed, you lock it in place so that it's not going to somehow touch the bumper and scratch it. The Raceseng has the angle adjustment, but I don't see a way to lock it. If that ball joint gets loose somehow, it might move and contact paint.

Based on the design, I wouldn't bother with the Craven at all. I guess you have to bend the tab in the middle to adjust the angle? No thanks. And there's no provision to adjust the position from center. It's surprising that they want as much for that as the Grimmspeed, when it lacks the Grimmspeed's features.

The suggestion to watch the classified board is a good one. I have seen several come up for sale back when I lived in a state where I didn't need one. When I moved to a state that required a front license plate, I couldn't wait around for another one to become available.

Maybe I need to work on the description of our Platypus, there is no bending required. The tab steel backing plate is bent on a press brake to the angle we have selected for the FR-S. Instead of a universal design, we have opted to make a variety of plates and studs and then fit specific models. That's why we don't have a bunch of mounting locations or angle adjustment, IMHO, you don't need them.

I'd am down to answer any questions you might have, I'll subscribe to the thread so I can get back to you quickly as I can.

Bought a relocator kit off Amazon for like $30 (I think it was from godspeed). As long as you make sure that everything's tight it'll get the job done.
