Coilover situation advice?

Hello ft86,

Update: Going to The Racer's Line to swap into Teins and will fix the B14s to be serviced or sold.

Don't drive with the clunk. You will damage other, much more expensive parts.
Borrow/rent a spring compressor from local parts store.
Put stock back in for now.
Pull the damaged parts off and decide what to do from there.
Re-thread/chase the threads with a die, or make slightly smaller and use a smaller nut.
Or send them in to get replaced.

So what was your mistake? and what did you learn from it?

Are you trying to put OEM suspension back in or OEM strut back on a spring? You obviously don't need a compressor to put an already assembled OEM strut assembly back into the car. Either way, you can rent a mcpherson strut compressor at Oreileys for free.
Also, wouldn't an impact gun spin the whole top part of the strut? I know the OEM ones have a female hex so you can hold the strut still while you tighten the top nut. Do it that way next time.

OP, if you need OEM top hats, send me a PM. I have a few I can sell you for cheap (basically cover shipping) if you don't want to bother removing the ones you have installed.

Hey, thanks! That would be great, but I'm frustrated with the situation (our schedules are not working out) and I'm treating this as urgent, I've hit up Racers Line in an attempt to buy new coils and swap from Bilsteins to new ones, then leave the B14s assembled for selling or worked on by Bilstein.

If this goes through, it will be for sale for anyone interested and you could do the Bilstein service yourself or thread it yourself and will be priced reasonably. :/

Thanks fellas, I have learned my lesson. Not taking any easy routes and apparently be skeptical with people's skill level -_-

Don't beat yourself up. I broke one of my OEM struts this weekend trying to take the easy route while installing camber plates. Had to get a local members struts to finish the job.
If you need the top hats, just PM me, but sounds like you've got it worked out.
