Just got back from alignment. Any thoughts? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Morning All,

Just got back from getting My 2013 BRZ aligned. I've recently lowered the car 1" on Hotchkis springs (easy install) and wanted to be sure alignment was in spec. I went in requesting the following (taped a piece of paper to the steering wheel):

Front: as much even negative camber as possible from lower camber bolt and upper crash bolt, 0deg toe.

Rear: -1/16 total toe-in

Here is the final alignment spec:

They mentioned that things were already close to spec. It is a shop I trust. Here are my questions:

1. I still have a bit less front camber than rear. Not currently tracking the car. Should I really invest $$$ into correcting the rear camber with the front getting pretty close? Will I really notice that 0.5deg difference between front and rear camber on the passenger side?

2. They didn't set my rear toe-in to -1/16 as requested. I presume the rear toe is for tracking straight at high speed. Is it worth going back into the shop and requesting them to get it right? Would I really notice a difference?

I wouldn't bother with the rear camber, unless it really bothers you.

I WOULD be bothered about the toe, since you taped a thing in the car asking for specific numbers and they just did whatever they wanted.

Thay front toe is pretty wonky. Next time make sure you specify 0 toe each wheel not 0 total toe. I would take it back in personally

Toe should match from side to side both front and rear.

Yeah the camber is ok, but that toe is not cool. Zero out the fronts and a little negative in the rear if it's a DD.

Thanks fellas -- I'm calling back and will send it back in a few. I should be looking for 0 toe at each wheel in front, and -1/16 total toe in for the rear (-1/32 each side)

Seems like they are not a performance shop, what they've done is a better alignment than many cars will ever see, but for a performance application it is not acceptable imo.

Since you're not tracking it and I also assume not autocrossing it that alignment is probably good for DD purposes.

If you were driving hard and were a finely tuned instrument of driving prowess you would notice some inconsistency in left to right turns due to the toe and camber, but the average sports car owner probably wouldn't even notice.

Given your scenario, I'd just let it ride until you start doing the track and autocross deal and find a good local performance shop. Whether or not you do the modifications to the rear is up to you, I am holding off on it (same differential of 0.4 degrees) because I am not a good enough driver to hone in on the difference but will likely do it this winter.

Strat61 you've probably got a good point.... I do plan to do some autocrossing down the road, but if i'm going to do that then i would be doing LCAs to correct front-to-rear camber anyway. So perhaps I will leave it until I start doing something more intense with this car.

I'm guessing this is the date that they set the alignment machine up with the standardized form. You'll notice not many other fields are the form are filled out... I'm guessing they just don't use all that data.

that's a horrible alignment job

1. the front toe is in on one wheel and out on the other wheel. This means when your steering wheel is centered your wheels are / - / , this means to drive straight you'll have to move your steering wheel!

2. same for the rear toe, one wheel is in, the other is out, but since you cant steer your rear wheels the car will always drive itself a little to side.

absolutely horrible
