Sh** Oil from Toyota/Subaru - Change It!

I've got a BRZ with 12K miles on it. Decided to do my second oil change myself instead of taking it to the dealership for their expensive maintenance.
I chose Royal Purple Full Performance Synthetic and a Mobile 1 Extreme Performance High Volume/Flow Oil Filter. Weight as per recommended by Subaru and 5.7 Quarts.

I'm not sh**ting you guys... My BRZ feels like a different car.

Immediately upon backing it out of the driveway I noticed the usually buzzy FA20 engine seemed to be running smoother and revved much quicker, easier.

After driving it for a week I am utterly amazed at the difference and I have never in my 20 years of driving and working on cars seen such a dramatic performance improvement made by only an oil and filter change.

Either Subaru/Toyota are using trash for oil and filters, or Royal Purple and Mobile 1 are geniuses.

Here are my observed and measured results after the change:

- increase in torque and hp of at least 10%, especially at low revs.
- increase in fuel economy of between 10 and 15% (savings in gas will pay for all annual oil changes easily!)
- engine runs consistently approx 10% cooler under all driving conditions.
- the normally buzzy FA20 engine is way smoother and quieter and feels noticeably much more spirited and ready to perform with less effort from your foot.

In short, it feels like a different car and for the better. The decreased friction and improved flow have combined to make this $75 expense the cheapest and most effective performance boosting mod you can make to an FRS/GT86/BRZ.

Seriously, don't walk, run to your local auto supply and do it now. Let me know if you experience similar performance gains.

Cheers. YSG.

lol, I still have 8 free oil changes from Scion. I'll be going there until I'm out of free changes, then I'll be buying Eneos

Also, please post how you measured a 10% gain in HP/TQ and increase in fuel efficiency and cooler temps

It's also a proven fact that washing your car adds 5 h.p. Butt dyno's all over the world have documented this.

The Subaru oil is made my Idemitsu and the Toyota oil is made by Exxon Mobil. Both are excellent oils.

IMO royal purple is crap. Ask yourself this. Does my oil company refine thebase stock or buy it? does my oil company make their additive packages or buyit? Does my oil company bottle my oil or just get their label put on it by someone else?
Just my 2 cents.

Try it and you'll see..

You guys can laugh and joke all you want, but try it. I am seriously not kidding you. We've tested the car and done the measurements to prove our suspicions. The car noticeably performs and feels dramatically better after the change.
Don't knock it until you try it, and you'll see immediately what we are talking about. For 10%+ increase in performance for $75 you cannot buy a more cost effective performance mod for the FRS/GT86/BRZ.

For $75 and an hour of your time you'll have all the proof you need, and you'll be thanking me. What are you so scared of?! Lol. You've got nothing to lose any everything to gain (unless you can't do your own oil change). Rather than come on here and bash people who are genuinely and knowledgeably trying to assist our owners, perhaps you could be more positive. Don't make the conversion... It is 100% your loss.

Again, please refer to my post above and let me know how you tested it.

I don't know you or anything about you. Neither does anyone else... so if you want to come in here and spout ACTUAL numbers.. you better be prepared to back it up. If not... just replace your fake numbers with the words "Butt Dyno"

EDIT: And why does it take you an HOUR to do an oil change?

Well, if you can analize something, it's usually good stuff.

And to the OP: Looks like you're caught up on marketing jargon and placebo effects. Yes, the oil may perform better than OEM oil (Idemitsu and TGMO are awesome oils), but to be able to quantify if to that degree is just absurd.

I know what you are talking about, switching to Castrol professional OE (basically the same stuff as you get in the gold bottle with the titanium additive package.) has changed the feel of the car and maybe gave it more power but without data I will not claim that. The thing with royal purp is it will break down and degrade way sooner than some other high quality oils out there. Your"gains" will be short lived.
