FR-S Independent Fog Lights?

Hey guys, I'm only asking because I can't seem to find a thread on this subject. How would I run my OEM fog lights independent of the headlights? I would use them as an extension of my DRLs. I did a similar mod on my old Sentra, pictured below. I was able to turn my fogs on/off on demand. Is there a DIY or has anyone done something similar? Thanks.Name: uploadfromtaptalk1437266804242.jpg

The oem kit come with a switch so you can manually turn them off and on. What kit are you looking at?

Yes it does, I'm aware of that switch. But even with the switch on, the fog lights don't turn on unless the headlights are on too.

The way I have mine set up. It's just a switch independent from the headlights.

What foglight kit are you looking at?
Do you want them independent from the ignition itself so you can turn them on anytime even when the car is off?

Yes, that's what I want. But I can't do that because my OEM fogs were already installed on the car when I bought it.

I mean you can do it. But what's the reason?

You'll also lose the dash indicator

Dash indicator?? I would use them as an extension of my DRLs for visibility purposes. Also like the look of then running without the headlights on

Yes if you have the oem fog light system you should have a green indicator light come on when you turn on your foglight you'll lose that. But I could of swore the fuse that's tapped into for instal is live at all times. If not you'd have to completely re-wire your fog lights via the fuse box. Honesty foglight a with out your turn signal lights lit up looks weird imo

Ohhh okay I recognize that light. Yeah haha to be realistic I'd probably have the amber parking lights on in conjunction with the fogs. I drove my sentra like that all day, then flipped my headlights on at night. I'm sure rewiring won't be that difficult. Just figured by now maybe someone had a step-by-step guide to it.

You'll need to reverse step six in this how to and find a power source that is live at all times, or hard wire it to your battery.

Thanks! I'm thinking I could wire it to the corner lights.

Corner lights would be the same as the ones it currently wired to. You'd need to tap an active wire. Buy a multimeter and find one or search the forum for more info. You can easily tap into the dome light. If you want to only drive with your drl and fog lights on it should already work.

When I wanted fog lights, I wanted to have mine done up this way as well. I wanted to go with the Diode Dynamics kit for the glass housing, and I didn't really trust any of the other kits that were available that offered a switch.

There were options to modify your dash for the switch, or try to purchase the Monogram dash switch, and change out that panel, which all seemed to be a bit of a hassle, so I just wired mine up with the headlights. Here is a thread with some information on incorporating an independent switch if you're determined to do it up that way - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67016

FWIW I plan on simply re-wiring my Diode Dynamics kit to tap into the side marker, and not the headlights - that way if I (like you) just want a little extra light (but don't want to have my headlights enabled) I can just flip the light stock one turn and have the fog lights come on with the side markers, license plate, and dash lighting. I emailed Diode Dynamcis asking if this would be safe, and they confirmed that it should be perfectly fine to do so.
