Is the BRZ/FR-S/86 a sports car?

A forum member recently posted that the FR-S is not a sports car.
I thought this was interesting.
I read the definition at Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_car and whilst I thought the definition is accurate different cars can have varying degrees of "sportiness". At U.S.News they list the FR-S and BRZ as the equal 3rd (along with MX5) and 5th best affordable sports cars respectively. http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com...e-Sports-Cars/

I propose the BRZ/FR-S/86 are sports cars and would like to read discussion for and against.

I think the twins are sports cars.

But what are our options?

Muscle car? Luxury car? Exotic Car? Family Car? Sports car?

http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/2015/Subaru/Sport

This website labels the BRZ as a sports car.

I am sure there are plenty of people on this forum and in general will do the standard "Its a sporty car, but its not a sports car."

I think it fits the bill of a sports car, even in its 2+2 layout. Its not a fast sports car, but I believe it is a sports car.

high cost of ownership is not a pre-requisite to be a sports car.

Now in general, sports cars have a higher cost of ownership.

And the cost of ownership varies on usage. Going through 5-6 sets of tires a year is on top of other consumables at the track = high cost of ownership.

I have been struggling with this since I bought the car and have decided to remain completely, positively and without a doubt, on the fence. Without one single iron clad definition of what constitutes a "sports car" we can debate the pros and cons all day and never reach a consensus. This has been hotly debated many times and I must admit I have argued the case for both sides depending upon what my particular thought was at that given time.
By the available classification definitions alone it is a sports car, grand touring car or even (gasp) a "pony" car. In it's stock form I think it is a hybrid of all three and really can't be slotted in any one group with 100% certainty but just a few mods could push individual cars into one of those three categories.
Just another page in the poor thing's identity crisis.

I wish my insurance didn't label it as a sports car. Would be much more cheaper in monthly payments!

Check out the rates for an Evo or Sti sometime if you want to feel better about what you pay.

Yeah.... ~375 dollars for an STI. How these fellas around my age can afford it without having a decently paying job is beyond me! Probably go without no insurance, just like a lot of the Honda guys around here.
