What chemicals can do this?
Anyone have any idea what chemicals can bubble up paint and cause it to peel? It was even strong enough to eat away at my headlight housings. I'm assuming someone sprayed it based on the corrosion marks. I imagine someone mixed it with soap or something of that nature based on how it dried.
I ended up filing a police report and seeing if apartment management caught anyone on camera. Anyone have any idea how this affects insurance premiums when you have it done through insurance? |

Pissed off Girlfriend/Wife? Wow that is terrible. I'm sorry this happened to you. Bright side is (if there is a bright side) that it can be fixed and the damage is only cosmetic. Since the damage is not mechanical I would not report to Insurance and pay out of pocket if you are in the financial position to do so. Please fill us in when you figure this out.

Holy Christ. Honestly, from the pattern it looks like you ran through something that was splashed by a car in front of you.

I agree, looks like acid. A vandalism claim through his comprehensive coverage shouldn't raise his rates, right?

Doubtful as the headlights are a couple grand alone, and if the damage is more than skin deep (looks to have eaten the bumper) he's looking at replacement parts as well as paint work. The only good thing to say about this whole ordeal is just be happy it was your car and not you. Cars can be replaced. |

So, the estimator thinks it's either paint stripper or something along that lines.
Whatever it is, it had begun eating/burning away at my headlights before it dried up and ended up all bubbled up like dry soap suds. The estimator also thinks the damages on the bumper and fenders is only on the surface, so it supposedly just needs a sanding on those areas and a repaint. Despite the fact that I told him multiple times it's the Release Series and that nothing compares to or looks like the OEM ones, he wrote down aftermarket headlights without my knowledge and cut me a check. Luckily, I asked to have the work done at my dealership's bodyshop. They looked over my car and what's written by the estimator. They said that the estimator was way off because they're going to have to stick to the OEM headlights and repaint the entire bumper/fenders, not what was just damaged. But, at my pricing versus what they're charging my insurance, it would eat up my deductible. Since I had plans for my car about repainting it a different color scheme and they had already had known about it, we agreed that it would be a waste of money to repaint it Yuzu yellow and end up repainting it another color scheme soon after. I'll just pay for the work on the rest of the body. So, we're scheduling the work out in the winter to give me time to gather (a) part(s) and money. Both parties agreed that the damages are deliberate because the damages are concentrated on the headlights and whatever got on the paint seems to be just overspray. If it was natural and just something splashed at the front, it would have gotten to the bottom half of the bumper, past the bumper (such as the hood) and other places, which it did not. Our 86s are too low to only get splashed on the front bumper and nowhere else, plus the way the front bumper is angled and depending on how it was splashed towards my car, the damage concentration would be more on the bumper instead of the headlights. As for enemies, I'm not sure. Definitely not a girlfriend/wife. Since I noticed the damages after I got to work in the morning and it wasn't damaged when I got home from work the night before, I'm assuming it's either one of my neighbours or someone that knows where I live. If the latter, I can only think of two possible people. One of them is probably bitter since I took something back for playing mind games and lowballing me, thinking I'd bite. The other has a Napoleon complex that delusionally thinks he's real life's version of Dominic Toretto and that he lives in the Fast and Furious world, but only comes off as someone who compensates for his height and skinniness with a gun and runs his group like a gang, though I didn't think he knew where I lived. Though, nothing concrete to pin it to someone, so I may never know who did it and why. Either way, when this is all taken care of and over with, I'll have a place with a garage to put it away in to minimize any future possible damages. |

You've already mentioned it, but paint stripper.
I was reading a story where this guy in Florida got his car vandalized by someone who was jealous of him. The asshat got really strong paint stripper and went to town. His brother's RX-7 was also parked in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Thought about getting a full graphic vinyl wrap for my car but may not be worth the risk of it getting damaged by closed minded people. |
