Problem with OFT

So I just got my oft and when I connect to car and select my car and then try to read the ecu it says "key on and confirm" so I turn my car on and then it says "communicating with ecu please wait" and right after it says "key on and confirm" again so I click ok and again said "communicating with ecu please wait" but then I get a message that says error "ecu in recovery mode reading not allowed". Can anyone tell me what's going on here?

Key ON means full ON not just accessory ie two pushes of start button but do not start car or have engine running for flash or read (ie dont press clutch on manual)

read OFT TIPS link below
