Replacement for Displacement.

How many people say that the old addage of "There is no replacement for displacement." is dated?

How many say it still stands true?

Technically turbos and superchargers effect displacement so...it kind of stands true. But this question is so general its hard to respond to....

What are you trying to do that you need displacement? If you're pulling a stump out of the ground, the low end torque that a massive engine gives you becomes very beneficial.

Well there you have it.

The Philly guy says FI is the replacement for displacment.

And Doug says he needs a stump pulled.

I think it holds true, go stuff your FI arguments, I don't care, I want a screaming redline not a lumpy idle.

Boost is fun...when it hits...

I would rather have a big (yet still responsive) V8 at the ready at all times...

A Briggs & Stratton with reduction gearing + a firm anchor will move your stump.

Ammonium Nitrate would be more fun though.

Both work and it really depends on the personal tastes of the owner. Absolutes are often specious.

I'll take a roaring big inch NA engine or a small high strung one with the wastegate at full rip.
