headers rasp

Hello
bonjour

hola

and hello (lol)

i just recently installed my tomei UEL on my ferrari BRZ. at first, i was intoxicated and fell in love. But now, since the headers have been on for about a week and i had time to live with it, i have notice some unwanted rasp. Now i know taking out the primary cat etc. (pretty much almost all headers in general) will give me this noise.
My current setup is Tomei UEL -> Perrin overpipe -> Berk HFC Front pipe -> perrin 2.5in resonated catback.
I am thinking about putting my oem front pipe back on.
My question is (sorry for taking so long ), at the time i had a hard time taking off the front pipe. taking off the heat shield for the front pipe helped.
would not having the heat shield matter? is having the Heat shield important? what does it protect heat from? etc

i also might or might not have a crack/leak somewhere that is contributing to the rasp.

thanks DAWWGGSSS

A resonator in your front pipe would help the rasp for sure!

You can get the nameless fp with a resonator and cat. I'm running the Nameless headers to the Nameless OP/FP combo with resonator and cat into the 2.5" resonated perrin catback. It has minimal rasp. I have a few videos posted if you look up some of my posts.

IIRC there are both catted and resonated frontpipes. Problem of CA being .. even if they are catted .. they are still illegal there :/. You cannot replace/relocate any of cats and pass inspections there, from what i've heard, so you are limited only to slight gains by catback exhaust/drop in filter, tune and E85. Or go with forced induction, leaving stock exhaust as is.

I don't hear any rasp in your video. Sounds good to me. taking off the heat shield may change under car aero & venting of the engine bay; I err on the safe side and say it's there for a reason.

I have rasp with my OFH and completely stock exhaust from there back. At least I do if I am understanding rasp correctly.

JDL do a front pipe they call 'ultra quiet' with a cat and a resonator. I haven't seen any reviews but a few people have commented that it is no louder than the stock front pipe.

This shouldn't be necessary. I run a JDL catless UEL, JDL OP, JDL Catted FP, and Perrin 2.5" resonated and I have 0 rasp....

Literally the same setup as the OP, just different flavor. Could be the header? I'm failing to hear where the rasp is in that video as well.

Maybe just cold starts( obviously ) and first 10minites of driving.
The mid/upper register of the rev range isn't recorded in the video
