SoCal owners: Opticoat?
Hey BRZ guys/gals in SoCal:
Do you feel a need to get Opticoat or similar treatment for your car? Or is that just needed when you live in an area that snows? If so, where to get it? Thanks! |

It also offers UV protection, so I say get it. I did and my paint still looks great.

I did a ceramic coat which is thicker and more durable. Makes cleaning grime and bird shit way easier.

I read it was like 800$ and you have to do it once a year? Seeing how most of the damages on my car wasn't from me ;( I don't regret not getting it opticoated.

Get some Klasse and a good butter wax and it's just as good. The ceramic stuff "bonds" to the paint which might not be a good thing in the long run. If you live by the beach you will need some kind of paint protection esp. If u don't have a garage.

+1 for Rhino Custom Detailing. They did my wheels for what I found to be a very reasonable price after price shopping. Makes cleaning an expensive investment really easy.
I had my car opticoated from one of those garage detailers and I somewhat regret not going to a professional shop to do it...I get the feeling certain parts of my car has better properties of opticoat. I got it mostly to make cleaning the car easier. FWIW, the visual effects of opticoat on my wheels(done by a professional shop) are noticeably better than compared to my cars paint(done by a garage detailer)...

I went with Xpel ultimate clear bra for the front clip. Protects from rock chips and is self-healing with warm water. No regrets! It is pricey, but its warrantied for 10 years, and I can actually see it lasting longer than that. Discoloration is pretty much non-existent up to the 10 year mark. YMMV, but I prefer a clear bra to opticoat. Less maintenance and reapplication over the years.
I got mine done in San Diego, PM me if you want recommendations. I cross-shopped a couple places. |
