I know nothing about tires/rim sizes
I'll apologize upfront for still not completely understanding what will fit. I've read the forums, played with the graphic and tried asking the local tire shop. I still don't know what will fit my 2015 series 1. Since it has the lowering springs, the tire shop isn't sure if they would rub or not. I'm just looking for a little wider tires in front and rear (245s? and if I understand it, it would be 245x14x7?). I don't know anything about offset numbers. I plan on getting new rims at the same time from TireRack as a complete package. If someone could assist, I'd much appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Thanks - I've tried Google and the forums, but I couldn't find much on the Series 1 - some talked about other lowering kits, but I wasn't sure if it is the same distance as stock.

Hey, read this thread. It contains all the information you could possibly need. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7535
It is sticky'd at the top for a reason.

There's no difference regarding fitment between the RS1 and a car that's been lowered 1 inch, so use that as your guide.

Quick rundown on wheel and tire sizes, so you know what you're looking at.
Wheels: On an 18x8.5 +40, 18 is the diameter, 8.5 is the width, and +40 is the offset. Offset is measured from the centerline of the wheel, so this wheel's mounting surface (where it touches the hub) is 40mm to the outside of the wheel's centerline. Tire sizes are pretty straightforward. The OEM tire size is 215/45-17. The 215 is the tread width in millimeters. The 45 refers to a single sidewall, saying that the sidewall is 45% of the tread width. When determining diameter, you have to count the sidewall twice, for the portions both below and above the wheel. The 17 is the diameter of the wheel in inches. When choosing tires, try to stay very close to the same overall diameter. Wheel diameter doesn't matter, tire width doesn't matter, overall diameter can mess with a number of systems if it changes too much. |

Play around with that tool. You can even account for the lowering springs. The weakness with that tool is it doesn't account for suspension clearance. Your main concern will be with the width -- wider wheels/tires can rub on the stock suspension (and while yours isn't normal stock, it's the same principle). You can fix this by: 1) installing coilovers (expensive), or 2) getting a lower offset so the wheels stick out further from the suspension. In the case of (2), though, you will have to make sure the wheels clear the fenders (and the above calculator can indeed help with that). |
